Autumn Bliss

Been MIA lately again but it was because we were at the beach for 5 days with our friends! We had mostly glorious weather-warm enough to dip toes in the water, and catch some gorgeous sunsets too. We are still experiencing unusually warm weather here in PA and I am LOVING it! (77 degrees F on Wednesday alone!) Time to catch up now and share some art. I did do a bit of art in my watercolor journal whilst at the beach but the pages aren't complete so I'll share those in the next week.

There is a new theme this month over at Art Journal Journey-"inspired by autumn colors" so as soon as I got home I created this page inspired by the theme and the gorgeous colorful trees we are surrounded by. I am also linking this to TIOT (theme is lots of layers).

The tree and branches were created by using Higgins Black Magic ink applied with a dropper and then blowing the ink around with a small straw. The many colors are acrylic paints applied using a sponge and the words were added digitally. I remembered doing the ink blowing technique before and found some older samples:

As you can tell I have refined my  branches a bit more in the new page above this :)

This is a scrap of glossy cardstock on which I applied drops of reinkers and blew through a straw.
Have you ever tried this?

Well, this is all I have for now. Will be linking up to Art Journal Every Day, Art Journal Journey, Paint Party Friday, and Try It On Tuesdays. Looking forward to visiting you and catching up again!

  8. I've never tried ink blowing but your tree came out fabulous! I love it and think trees might be one of your strong points. And you had a gorgeous stretch of early November weather to go to the beach for a few days- I am jealous! How fun is that.

  12. Lucky you having such warm temperatures at this time of the year! We've actually had a very mild pleasant September and October was was lovely seeing as we had a completely non-existent summer! I really like this piece Linda, the lovely way the colours are blended and such lovely colours to boot.

  13. Spending time at the beach is a fine excuse for being MIA. I think your branch pages are beautiful. That last one with the straw work - Looks like its a fine start of something all doodly and wonderful. And, totally not fair that you are having such warm and glorious weather this time of year - its only about 50's here :)

  14. I know HEAVEN isn't it!!?? I'm in MD and the weather is so beautiful I could cry.
Love all your branch and tree art. I don't want the leaves to fall yet tho...if they can just hang on for a few more weeks that would be great.

  25. Oh Linda, I'm so glad you are well and absent only because you were at the beach. I adored your latest adventure in straw blowing. I've done that, but NEVER tried to draw a tree or even anything. Mine looked more like your reinker adventure. And how you got those "leaves" so perfect with only a sponge is beyond me. They turned out perfect. This is fabulous!
