When A Blizzard Strikes...

...what do YOU do??  As most of you have read or seen on TV or experienced yourselves, much of the northeast got HAMMERED - many places with over 30 inches of snow over the weekend!!! We were one of those places- 31.2" total when all was said and done late Sat. night! Our local news deemed it was a blizzard in our area-dropping sometimes more than 3 " an hour with blowing winds and very little visibility! People lost power in various areas and although we got lucky I tried to prepare by baking and cooking extra meals and keeping the grill attainable if need be. Hopefully none of you lost power either! I feel especially badly for the shoreline towns which were again devastated by flooding and my thoughts and prayers go out to all.

So of course I have some pics to show :

I didn't get another pic of the final 31.2" cuz hubby went and dumped the heavy snow off the back patio roof-onto the picnic table and then cleaned it off.

                                                   view from the back door

                                                 view from the front porch

our son's car-it's there somewhere! He was away in Killington, Vermont for a long weekend-and guess what ? They didn't get one snowflake!!!

and poor old Annie-I had to shovel a path every hour before she would venture out!

Enough of that. Hot coffee and a snack:

A most delicious molasses muffin! The house was filled with a gingerbread aroma. These muffins are packed with a rich, comforting flavor and yet are light and not so sweet. Hubby loved them so much I just made a second batch! We both wish to thank Elizabeth very much for the easy recipe she provided in this post. And speaking of,  do come visit also at Elizabeth's T Stands for Tuesday-you just never know what kind of treat you'll find amongst the link ups!

Wanna know more about this piece?  You can find the details  HERE.

One last bit of art for this week:

Another winter wonderland journal page! Again, (my habit as of late) the image was printed - correction- painted over a gelli plate deli paper print glued to the page. The snowflakes are glittery foam stickers. Linking to Art Journal Journey (winter wonderland theme);  Art It Friday- Show Your Face; Paint Party Friday.

Hope you are all safe and warm, and thanks so much to my newest followers, along with those of you who have stuck around for so long. Mwah!

" I wonder if the snow loves the trees and fields, that it kisses them so gently? And then it covers them up snug; you know, with a white quilt. And perhaps it says 'go to sleep darlings, till the summer comes again'. "          Lewis Carroll

  1. You really had loads of snow, what a lot of work to shovel away! Your muffins and coffee look great, I can imagine the aroma! Thanks for making another beautiful journal page for AJJ. Happy T Day, hugs, Valerie

  2. Your 9 am total is more than we got the whole day! I'm glad you stayed safe and were so prepared. While it does look pretty, I know very quickly that novelty wears off as there is no place to pile it all. We are getting some rain late today and tonight which may help melt some.

    Beautiful winter girl!

Sorry for you that you got dumped on because I know winter is not your favorite time.
Warning my T post is all about the snow heehee.
Glad you are safe and go figure with your son in Vermont.
I have New England friends that were saying they are a bit jealous of all of our snowfall.

  10. Glad to hear you are safe and warm.....that is one pile of snow!! Having the yard stick on the table was a cool (pun intended) idea to keep track of the snow fall.

Thanks for the earlier visit and the comment....Happy T-day

  11. I really enjoyed this post because I was able to see how the snow developed. Although I was away from the internet and TV much of the time you were being pounded, I kept hearing weather reports on the car radio. What an incredible storm. You even beat Patty, I bet.

I loved the leaf, the snow, and the inch after inch as you documented this monumental event. Gotta love the muffins, too.

Your mug is so colorful, it certainly doesn't belie the white areas outside. Thanks for sharing your muffin, your AJJ and other art, and your colorful coffee with us for T this Tuesday.

  17. That's a LOT of snow at once! Wow! Been a long time since we've had that much in one storm up here. Beautiful--but can cut off electricity and takes a long time to dig yourself out.

Lovely art--all of it (including the snowman)--and quite impressed with painting on an oak leaf! Happy T-Day! :)

  28. lovely art, glad you had time for it with that blizzard to cope with!

  29. Brilliant post, as always, Linda. My goodness - that was some blizzard you had to contend with! Here in the UK we have seen some terrible flooding for poor souls living in Cumbria. Often they have been flooded more than once and lost everything! We are very lucky, as although the rain has been heavy where we live we are not at risk of flooding. I love your art. What a beautiful winter portrait. I love her cosy sweater and those delicate snowflakes fluttering down. xx

  30. Wonderland!
I've only ever seen such snow on top of a Mountain!
    Annie looks quite bewildered!
I had blue hair like that when I was a young girl!
I put too many drops of Magic Silver White in the rinse water - my father and Grandfather were horrified!!!
She's a lovely snow girl gor your journal Linda.
    Love

  31. You got more than twice the amount of snow that I did. That is an amazing amount for one weekend! Poor Annie. Being a girl dog has its disadvantages when you gotta go in the snow! Your art looks great. I love the beautiful face in your journal.

  32. Wow, that's a lot of snow!! :)

Thanks for all the great pictures you shared oh and that muffin looks delicious, I can understand why you made a second batch!

  34. Lots of lovely snow (we've had none all winter). It's fine as long as you are warm and cosy and don't have to travel.
The molasses muffin sounds and looks delicious, I'll be over to look at the recipe.
And your portrait of the girl is really lovely and I like the way you have printed it, a new idea to me. She looks very steadfast.

  39. Can't EVEN imagine that much snow!!! We freak out over an inch of rain out here in drought-land.
Love the idea of painting over gelli paper. I'll have to give it a whirl!

  40. That's a crazy amount of snow Linda,
The weather's gone crazy! We are currently having Storm Gertrude vent her anger on us, but thankfully no power cuts (yet!)
Great to see that you've actually managed to created such lovely artwork too.
Had a little wee chuckle at Annie's own pathway... bless

  47. I have to admit, I read your line "baking and cooking extra meals" as "baking cookies" and I thought, great idea, I could survive a blizzard if I had cookies. Or molasses muffins!

I live in the Chicago area so I understand this darn snow business, though of course this recent event was much more crazy than normal. Lovely girl with her pink sweater! Love the hair and lips in particular.

I'm off to check out that recipe :)
