Back In The Game
Hello everyone, it's been awhile! Hubby and I unplugged and spent almost a week in our beloved Victorian seaside town of Cape May, NJ. We've been going there 25 years now and each time we get into town we say how much it feels like home. It only rained during a night or two, the days were mostly sunny, albeit sometimes quite chilly and windy. It didn't stop me from doing this though:
Only lasted a brief moment because it felt like I stuck my feet in a bucket of ice! Had a wonderful time. Met up with some CM friends along with new people visiting, went to some favorite places to eat, went back to the alpaca farm, did lots of beach and town walking, and found a fabulous tea shop- all of which I will share gradually in my posts:)
A big hi to Bleubeard and Elizabeth and the T Stands For Tuesday gang! For this week I'll share our dinner the first night in CM. A favorite place- Oyster Bay Restaurant and Bar . This is one place we really enjoy eating at the bar and chatting with people.
A crab cake sandwich, waffle fries and Stella Artois for Bill
while I chose another flatbread-fresh veggie- sauteed with roasted peppers, spinach, zucchini, yellow squash with fresh pesto and a glass of merlot. Bill had to help me a bit but the flatbread was very thin and crisp-very light :)
When I got home I made this collage in my calendar journal. And here are the completed pages for April:
For the Simon Monday Challenge (theme is "ombré") I have this card:
Products: white cardstock, black cardstock; lotus acetate sheet (Stamp On It); stitched circles dies (Our Daily Bread Designs); several pink and yellow markers; glitter glue; vintage gold dresden corners.
And for Art Journal Journey (this month's theme is flora and fauna - hosted by Jo); Moo Mania and More (theme is flowers), and Paint Party Friday I have this journal page:
(You may remember the similar style painting I did in this post inspired by the Art Sherpa You Tube videos). Page covered with black gesso. Acrylic paints, brushes and q tips. I have two double white lilac bushes in the yard and they are finally blooming and smell gorgeous!
My days are getting busier with gatherings and events, and of course the fine weather has me outdoors quite a bit so my art time may wane a bit and that's OK. Oh, and next week we'll be dog sitting a friend's shih tzu for a whole week and I cannot wait!!
Does your art time fade and then pick up as the seasons change?
Sunday is Mother's Day here in the US, so I want to wish everyone an especially happy and loving day!

Hi Linda, your vacation sounds wonderful, nice to have a spot to go back to like that-perhaps a retirement spot in the future?
ReplyDeleteBrrr I can almost feel how cold that water was. Your food looks so delicious. And I loved your art pieces especially the first one.
Happy T Day Hugs Kathy
Yes, I missed you last week, and I am glad to read you spent time in Cape May. BRRR! The water even looked cold, but I know you had to take at least ONE photo, even if it created frosty feet. Frosty feet photo (say that 3 times fast).
ReplyDeleteI LOVE your journal/calendar pages. They sure put mine to shame. The way you decorate the pages is wonderful, going from serious to whimsical as you flip through the pages.
You created a beautiful painting for Art Journal Journey. I was so impressed with your drawing. It's truly a great entry for Jo's theme and we are so grateful you shared it there, too.
I just recently had flat bread, but mine was thick, chewy, and doughy. I am sure yours was SO much nicer than mine. Yours looked wonderful, too. Thanks for sharing your art and your Merlot and Bill's Stella Artois with us for T this soon to be Tuesday. And welcome home, too!
What a gorgeous post.
ReplyDeleteThank you for joining us at MOO MANIA & MORE
Glad you were able to have a nice break wit your hubby. The food looks great, too. Beautiful art, too, so many beautiful pages. Happy T Day, Valerie

ReplyDeleteYes, art time definitely goes in seasons... not just of weather but family and mind. I am off to Berliin tomorrow to visit Elliott and when I get home I am hoping to jump into an arty season.... perhaps out in the garden ;)

Your meals looks so delicious, I think I like be had pressed to decided which to have - yum! Such fabulous artwork too and your page for Art Journal Journey is stunning. Your beautifully painted lilacs look very striking against the black background - I love it! Thanks so much for joining us at AJJ and wishing you a Happy T Day! J 😊 x
ReplyDeleteI am glad you had a fun little break. Those Jersey shore beaches look nice-I have never been. They look big compared to our beaches here, but probably just as cold. :) Your food looks yummy-but HUGE! And I think you have been very creative lately. I love the lilacs. They are my favorite flowers and you did a fantastic job with them. I also think your calendar is looking fantastic. The pages are very full of joy!!! Hope you have a fantastic T day. Hugs-Erika

As a NJ resident and native, this was especially fun to read. I never lived near th ocean until 2012. It was a dream fulfilled to buy a small place near water. However, we were there through numerous storms including Hurricane Sandy. That cured me, and I was glad to move back home to Burlington County away from the ocean. I read Kathy’s comment about retirement in the future and thought not me. I adore Cape May, but it was too worrisome near the ocean to think of living there full-time. However, I would never discourage anyone from taking a vacation anywhere on the coast. It is the best, and NJ has every kind of seaside experience. Your pages look fabulous, and your painting of one of my favorite flowers is stunning!
ReplyDeleteSuch a beautiful painting Linda and I love seeing your calendar pages. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteyour seaside vacation Looks Relaxing! you made a lot of gorgeous calendar pages... and the lilac on the black Background is just WOW!!

ReplyDeleteThe Oyster bar also sounds like a great place to go for good food and company. I would definitely tuck into one of those! Thanks for taking us to Cape May and I'm looking forward to seeing more photos.
Happy T-Day,
Lisca
I feel like I've been to Cape May with you :) I'd love to be close enough to a coast to make it a doable regular vacation site. The food looks delicious! Happy T Tuesday!

ReplyDeleteBeautiful journal pages and your ombre card. Your trip to Cape May sounds lovely. I love your food pictures. That flatbread looks SO yummy!
ReplyDeleteHappy Tea Day,

There's something so rejuvenating about visiting the ocean. Loved all your artwork. So beautiful. Time for art changes with the seasons. Sometimes it's busier than I expect. Either way, all things in good time. Happy T Day!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun post to read, Linda. I'm glad you had such a wonderful getaway. I've been to Cape May but only to drive around and see it. I can understand your attachment. It's a lovely place.
ReplyDeleteYour loaded flatbeard sounds/looks delicious. I love every one of those toppings.
I enjoyed seeing your calendar journal pages. I'm still trying to find a style that works with my lifestyle - lol. I like how you have an art journal page facing each calendar page. I especially like the heart pages - both the brown and the blue one.
I thought the lilacs were a photograph until I saw the jar. You did a fabulous job.
My art time wanes when my plate gets filled with other priorities. I love that other opportunities come my way, but hate losing the art time.
Happy T-day! Hugs, Eileen
Love your ocean journal ~ seems you love ocean as much as I do ~ very creative, Linda ~ xxx

It looks like a beautiful place to visit! And being unplugged for a while can work wonders :-) I really like your calendar journal, but that journal page with the flowers is my absolute favorite this week. Your painting of the lilacs is divine and I can't imagine how you made them so realistic.
ReplyDeleteThe journal pages look so good with the memory on paper of your days. I said it before but I do like the art on the right and the entries on the left which are also illustrated. Everytime I see your journal I want to start one then Time intervenes.
I especially like the collage you made of your seashore visit. There's nothing quite like the seaside.
Wonderful work as always Linda! Your journal pages are lovely. I’m blown away by your lilacs - beautiful!
