Hi all! For those of us in the Northern hemisphere it is autumn and we are being delighted with the gorgeous rich colors of the season- along with some very fluctuating temps from high to low and now today - to high again. I find myself changing clothes at least twice a day lately. How about you?
During a few of the cold days I tried out some new art lessons. Above is a card using just the 6 Van Gogh watercolor pans I won in a giveaway from Soma:
I watched a You Tube Tutorial by Ellen Crimi-Trent on painting autumn trees then went up to my desk to play! It was so much fun just playing and mixing up these colors to get the colors I wanted for the trees, grass, and trunks! I may end up using this for some Thanksgiving cards. And I enjoyed this so much I then grabbed my Dina Wakley Blue Media Journal, turned to a watercolor page and recreated a similar scene using the same watercolors:
It inspired me to write a haiku which was added to the page in Photoshop😉. These were two completely different watercolor papers so you can see how different the colors took to them. Joining in at Art Journal Journey (theme is "My Favourite Colour Is October").
For T Stands For Tuesday I have two photos I took during a visit to Tea By The Sea in West Cape May, NJ:
I love this store and visit every time we get to Cape May! There is so much to admire but the walking areas are narrow and as there were others in the shop I just captured these two photos- especially for the T gang. I know some of you will especially appreciate the cat items😸. I almost wanted to get a nice sized tea pot just to have reason to buy one of these delightful cozies- but then - which one??? Cheers!
Another art class I took was a free online class - Abstract Color Challenge. Laly Mille offered it for a week and I'm so glad I took the time to follow along and play!
We began by choosing a color we really like but maybe have some trouble using it in our art. I chose green/blue teal -like paint color by Amsterdam. We also gathered papers, crayons, inks, etc. in that chosen color along with gathering some items in a complimentary color, and some neutral papers as well:
Above is the first steps. It was suggested we work on 4 or more substrates at one time. Mine are 5" x 5" 140# watercolor papers. I can't tell you how difficult it has been to try and capture the true color of this deep teal- it has always come out looking more blue than it is...
I ended up not using any of the complimentary orange color. After layers and layers and moving around the orientation of each one as I worked I ended up with these:
Do you see what I ended up with? I call this series "Mystic Lighthouses". I had NO intentions of anything in particular, NO theme in mind at all- yet in the end I still created something around my love of the ocean 😂
A few detail shots:
And a pic of each one individually:
And that's a wrap for this post! Thanks for popping by. Happy Halloween to those who celebrate👻
Happy to be joining in at Paint Party Friday this week.

Love the Laly Mille inspired paintings! I have never taken one of her classes but am intrigued by her style.
ReplyDeleteYour watercolor trees are lovely and perfectly representing the colors of autumn. Do you like the Van Gogh paints? I have wondered if I should purchase some.
That tea shop looks like a place I would enjoy. Love the tea cozies. I have never purchased one but may consider it after seeing these. So cute!
Happy Tea Day,
Kate
Hi Linda, I really enjoyed seeing all of your art today I love your watercolors very much. I am hoping to play with those more come winter.
ReplyDeletewhat a fun shop to browse in-would be difficult to know what to buy. Happy T wishes
That tea store would make me want to spend money too. It looks like it had some cute things. And you've taken some fun classes lately too. You've created some amazing pieces too. Nice winning too. Do you like those watercolors Linda? Have a wonderful T day and week. Hugs-Erika
ReplyDeleteSometimes a curio or souvenir shop really takes my fancy — your photos look as if you found one of that sort. It’s great to see the leaves turning, but I hate when they all fall and leave the colorless bare trees of winter.

Love your lighthouse art. Lovely! Happy T Day!
ReplyDeleteI love your watercolor trees, Linda. They are beautiful. The one with the haiku is my favorite, of course, and is perfect for Tracey's theme at Art Journal Journey, too.
ReplyDeleteI am devastated. I wish I had known about the Laly Mille free course. I love her art and love abstracts. For the life of me, if I had known, I would have taken the free classes. Your work is stunning. I see you always have the sea in mind with your lighthouses in abstract. These are incredibly wonderful.
I went to Tea By The Sea web site and they have some impressive teas. Reminds me of the Spice Merchant in my town. Love the cozies and the cats. Those tea pots and mugs are so adorable. Thanks for sharing your art, your Laly Mille series, and your trip to the tea shop with us for T this nearly Tuesday, dear Linda.
Oh! I would hate the clothes-changing! Cold over here.
ReplyDeleteWonderful art work - thank you, I bookmarked Ellen Crimi-Trent :-)
Oh, I miss Photoshop. (too expensive here for my liking).
What a cute shop - don´t let me in there!
Cool works, love the idea and color!
Will have Halloween tomorrow, kinda, but Germany is still behind the rock in this.
Great quote and...
Have a happy T-Day!
Linda, I love the pieces you made with Laly, so beautiful and ethereal. I wanted to join in, but did 2 other courses last week, so there was no time. The shop you visited with al the teapots, cups etc is gorgeous. Happy T Day, hugs, Valerie
ReplyDeleteYou are really enjoying those classes aren't you. There is definitely a difference in the paper. The colors in the second one seem to be clearer and it looks more like water color paper. But what do I know!? I think your painting is wonderful. I love the colors of the trees. Here they have turned yellow too. I forgot to post a photo of the trees I took this week. If i remember i will post it next week.
ReplyDeleteYour light house art work is awesome. beautiful. My favorite color is teal.
The tea shop is a treasure trove! And those tea cozies are gorgeous. I can totally imagine you want to walk around that shop every time you go on holiday there. I've had to buy my tea cozy online.
Happy T-Day,
Hugs,
Lisca
Very cool art. I love the close ups and I love you went with mystic lighthouses. Soooooo interesting, Linda. The Tea Shop looks super fun - I would go there every time too!
ReplyDeleteHappy T-day!!!
I love your golden autumn trees, how gorgeous! I also love your lighthouse abstracts, you should definitely frame them up! I saw the free class from Laly Mille but then it turned out to be the same class she offered last year during the Kaleidoscope taster sessions, so I had already done it. I was hoping for something new. I am absolutely loving the cat teapots! Happy T Day Elle xx
ReplyDeleteOh you have been art busy Linda. I love the trees you did a fine job for sure. However, and you know what's coming. Your abstracts are masterful. I am excited to see them. Have a wonderful day today.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful artwork, those painted trees look amazing! So lovely to visit the store in Cape May with you too, I would happily spend time looking around too 😁. Happy T Day! Hugs Jo x

Linda your watercolour Autumn tree scape's are magnificent I adore how you shared both watercolour papers of cold and hot press(?) I do love a textured paper I have to say as it tries to take hold of the watercolour and move it in it's own way. Truly beautiful pieces. As are your Laly Mille works, so glad you got to play along with this workshop, I adore her work.
ReplyDeleteHugs Tracey xx
Had to pop back and see those fabulous Autumn trees again.. sigh!!

ReplyDeleteI love your trees Linda. It's always interesting to see how different papers can make such a difference. Your mystic lighthouses are fabulous and any class by Laly Mille would be a treat. I have to find a shop with good tea related products for some gifts. I hope I can find one s good as this. Hugs, Chrisx

I am so happy to see you using the watercolour paints, Linda! I love the new colours you have created by mixing them. The trees are really beautiful and your haiku is spot on. The tea-cosies are fantastic, I can see why you love that store. The abstracts are beautiful. They really make me think of ocean and a lighthouse.
