Poppies Landscape
This
is a 9" x 12" page in my mixed media journal. It was inspired by a
simple technique as described by Chris Cozen in the book Acrylic Color Explorations.
I used only one flat brush , the same stroke, and various mixing of a
few paint colors to vary the hues and tones. I've been seeing lots of
beautiful poppy art on the blogs lately so I had to make one of my own.
This is definitely something different for me. A fairly quick and fun
lesson definitely worth trying again:) Because it's always fun to learn
something new don't you think?
4"
x 4" canvas boards using napkins, gesso, vintage images from Retro Café
Art, words from ARTchix Studio, bits of recycled dryer sheet, paper
flowers, pearls, Baker's twine, shells found on the beach, and glitter
glue.

Your poppies are simply STUNNING! I like that technique.
ReplyDeleteI also enjoyed those four canvases, and what caught my eye was the use of recycled dryer sheets. Loved each one of these and they will make a great grouping, too.
Enjoy the beach. It's YOUR time of year.
Happy PPF and have fun at the beach, hugs, Valerie

ReplyDeleteYour poppy painting is gorgeous and has lots of glorious colors, Linda. I also enjoyed seeing the 4x4s. It gave me an idea of what to do with some 4x4 pieces I have had sitting around. Stay cool!
ReplyDeleteLove your poppies... I really like that style.

It is always nice to see what you are up to dear Linda!
ReplyDeleteI can see you're having fun.
I think of you every time I see poppies and like you mentioned there seem to be alot of them around lately.
Love what you do with napkins and precious bits of this and that.
Anticipation for vacations is always a fun part of the actual trip I find. I'm sure August can't get here quickly enough for you :-)
Happy preparations and happy beginning of the weekend oxo
Fab projects
ReplyDeleteThat poppies painting looks amazing, and sure sounds like a fun technique. I love Chris Cozen's lessons, she's a great artist. The mixed media boards are lovely, and really show your love for the sea. Hope you'll have a fabulous time with your friends!
ReplyDeleteLove the canvas boards. They have a vintage feel. :)
ReplyDeleteAwesome artwork Linda! Love your field of abstract poppies! All the small canvas boards are fabulous as well! Love the collage of elements! If you were to take up oil painting, I would recommend not to purchase paints until you get your hands on the artist's palette that you admire. Will save you lots of money in the long run! You really only need about 12-15 or so colors to get you on your way. Happy PPF!
ReplyDeleteGreat canvas. I love the effect made with napkins! Thank you for playing with Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge this week!
ReplyDeleteLove the poppies and the canvas boards are so adorable <3 Have fun at the beach!!!!

Cheerful and bright poppy painting. Awesome canvas board. Very summery!
ReplyDeleteLearning new things - sure! I learned to use sanding machine, to feel different brushes when painting exterior wall etc. It's interesting how paint flows with different brushes...
ReplyDeleteYes, I agree, it's always good to learn a new technique and try out something different. Sounds like a fun technique! Your canvases look great!
ReplyDeleteLove your canvas boards..the muted colors are so pretty ...but that first piece...it is awesome. That poppy acrylic is gorgeous. It is what I call a one-of-a-kinder. It is stunning. You really learned a lots from that presentation. genie
