It's All About The Birds
Hi all! Finally getting back into the groove of everyday routines and blogging after a fabulous beach vacation ( photos in my last post if you care to look). It was nice to take a break from the PC but I have missed you all.
Before we left I checked in on a nest a Carolina Wren was building in one of my hanging baskets on the front porch:
One day I found one egg, the next day two eggs, and the day we left there were three eggs! i didn't get a pic of the three eggs because this time I disturbed momma much too her distress so I refrained from taking down the basket to peek in and water it. As of today she is still sitting and there are no sounds yet...
We are lucky to have several pairs of hummingbirds which are constantly visiting the two feeders out back. They are definitely a totem of mine.
One of our friends gave "the girls" coloring books with pencils and crayons. My book is titled "Calm" and the above is one of 4 cards I made for our beach friends after coloring it in the book , copying, resizing and printing it on photo paper. I added glitter and the thank you. On the left is the envelope I stamped.
And this is a journal page I created while thinking about nature and the beauty of birds:
Background done with stencils, spray inks and acrylic paints. The bird is a Dina Wakley stamp (as is the sentiment). I fussy cut and added the bird to the card stock square after painting the background, bird, and branch. The leaves are fabric.
Joining in with Art Journal Journey (theme is Nature's Wonders); Moo Mania and More (theme is Nature's Beauty); and of course - Paint Party Friday!
Will be around to catch up with everyone the next few days. Enjoy!

I have hummingbirds too, and boy are they active as late. I have red petunias on my deck and they buzz around them, fighting and calling. Never mind the hummingbird feeder. Love your art today. It is such a happy summery page. happy weekend. Hugs-Erika
ReplyDeleteBeautiful bird art, thanks so much for linking to our challenges, MM&M and AJJ. Birds are such beautiful and fascinating creatures. Hugs, Valerie
ReplyDeleteI was SO in awe of your hummingbird. I couldn't believe how carefully you colored it and all the details you added like the white dots, etc.
ReplyDeleteYour AJJ/MM&M bird is wonderful, too. Those leaves looked incredibly realistic. I really liked the background and all the stencils you added to it, too.
I'd never heard that quote before. It's memorable!
A beautiful post and a very beautiful journal page

Lovely post Linda, I love your photos and all of your artwork - just beautiful!
ReplyDeleteGreat link for the Carolina Wren info thanks - I think our wrens in the UK are a bit smaller at about 4" and for a little bird they can make a very loud noise when they want. I hope you get to see your young ones soon.
And oh...you are so, so lucky having humming birds - I think I'd never get anything done and just sit all day watching them.
Have a lovely day.... Gill x (thank you also for all the lovely comments left on my pages x )
Birds are such a wonderful part of nature.
ReplyDeleteLucky you having wrens and hummingbirds too.
Hope you get to see the little ones.
They inspired some beautiful artwork from you dear Linda.
Your painting is beautiful and with the perfect words too.
L♥ve how you used the fabric leaves to decorate the branch for your pretty bird.
Happy beginning of the weekend to you. oxo
Love your art today Linda!!! A vacation at the beach sounds so good to me...soon :)
ReplyDeleteHappy PPF! Hugs, Valerie
ReplyDeleteEven after your holiday you're flying free!
ReplyDeleteHey Linda, I just read your sweet comment on my pesto recipe. That was the first time both Sally and I have made pesto, and she was not about to deviate from the recipe. I actually prefer to add a touch of this and a pinch of that, but as long as she was helping, it was going to be exactly what the recipe called for. I also read you could deviate with spinach leaves, etc. to make the basil less pungent, but I didn't find my basil too overpowering. Thanks for your suggestions.
ReplyDeleteWelcome back Linda you sound so happy
ReplyDeletethe hummingbirds around here are pretty feisty... and thirsty. Fun to watch. I love your journal page. The background is so beautiful and your coloring of the bird blends in perfectly.
ReplyDeleteI am quite attracted to your journal page - especially the bird. I love how you have colored her! Beautiful!!
ReplyDeleteBut so is a whole Maine Lobster!!
