Having Fun

Happy April! Finally the forsythia is blooming albeit sparser than last year. This past Saturday was a glorious 76 F and hubby and I took full advantage by cleaning outside and putting out planters (still empty though) and our furniture on our covered porch out back! Why, I even had on flip flops:):)
However, Mother Nature has provided us with her April Fool's joke in that we barely reached the LOW 40's F today and it's to dip down to the 20's F tonight:(

Well, I'm in flower mode and here is a card using one of my new Dina Wakley flowers stamp sets. this is meant for the Simon Wednesday Challenge (Anything Goes), and Try It on Tuesday (say it with flowers):

Products: white card stock, large notecard, washi tape (Recollections); flower image (Dina Wakley Always Flowers stamp set); sentiment (Papertrey Ink- Think Big Favorites 3); brick stencil (Wendy Vecchi); Jet Black ink (Archival); Distress inks - Antique Linen, Faded Jeans, Peeled Paint, Shaded Lilac, Fossilized Amber.

I mentioned to a few of you that my Mom recently gave me a box of old postcards:

This is a 12" x 12" box. Here I have somewhat begun to organize them into general categories. The Factory Smokers cigar box holds these kind of postcards:

They are from many different places and have a linen fabric-like feel to them.

And here are just a few other kinds:

These are the oldest, the one with the dove has flocking on it, and here is a close up of the oldest postmarked card:

Here are some from the late 40's to early 50's for a laugh:

See the guy with the mug of beer leaning against the barrel? Well, that's my drink reference today for T Stands For Tuesday:) I have found postcards from France from my Mom's family sent just after she moved with me to the states (she had NO idea these were in the box), and many written to and from family members like great grandparents (most no longer living, and some I know nothing about) from my father's side.
I won't be keeping everything in the box so I'll have to figure out what to do with the ones I won't keep.

There is a new challenge this month at Art Journal Journey and the guest host is the lovely Wendy who has chosen the theme of "Having Fun". Welcome Wendy! So for that, Moo Mania and More (theme is Colour), and Paint Party Friday I will share this fun journal page.

The first layers which began with a floral napkin, text paper, paint, stencils, and some crackle paste:

 then spray inks were added:

here's a detail pic:

and the completed page:

I soaked this label off the empty bottle of wine (yes I did buy it for the label but it was a good French wine:), stitched the edges and added the sticker (Tim Holtz Snarky Small Talk).

Thanks for popping in and hope you had some fun along the way! A bientot...

  3. Oh Linda that box of postcards is a great gift for sure. Will you use them for art or keep them as postcards? And we had some warm weather too this past weekend-but not quite so warm. But April Fools about spring here too. And great art too. Thanks for sharing that Dina W flower with us at Try It On Tuesday Linda. Hope you have a wonderful T day. Hugs-Erika

  4. I was also extremely impressed with the postcards. I could see using some in my 7 Continents spreads. If you have some from the US or countries you don't want, I would gladly pay you for them. What a gift your mother shared with you, dear. That's also a clever take on T this Tuesday, too!!

I was totally impressed with your journal page. I love how you showed each of the layers as they developed. This was a real beauty and I love the wine label you used, too. Thank you so much for sharing this with us at Art Journal Journey using Wendy's theme.

  8. I remember you saying you had been given some post cards but I would never have dreamed there would be so many, what a delight and sheer enjoyment to browse through them Linda. I can feel how heart warming they all must be, especially those from dearly departed family.
A beautiful shared card today and a reminder to me that I must make a card for a dear friend who's Birthday is very soon.

  9. Oooh! Brilliant postcards, Linda - lucky you. What a treasure hoard. I have some I bought a long time ago and really must get around to using them. Love your art, too - the journal page looks amazing and you certainly had fun using it but the card for TIOT is wonderful. I like that flower - a lot. Dina's stamps are so simple but so very special for that same reason.
We're to have colder weather again from today, too...maybe it is an April Fool's Day trick - who knows? Hope it warms up again soon for all of us.
Thank you for sharing with us at Try it on Tuesday.

  11. Your box of postcards reminded me that I have hundreds of them. I collected them as a child until a few years ago, I even have some my Grandfather sent during WW1. Love your page with the flowers and wine label. The crackle paste is really effective. Thank you for joining us on AJJ.

  13. Your poppy banner reminds me of a halter dress and jacket my mother made me. The fabric had a border print of poppies. I loved that dress. Nice that you used the good weather to get out and start the yardwork. We might get a belated April Fool's prank Tuesday night as we might get a dusting of snow. Not as bad as 1996 when we had a blizzard! The postcards are awesome. Must be fun to read what was sent to relatives. A suggestion, take photos of the cards you don't want to keep for a genealogy record. Happy T Day

  16. Wow! A box full of old postcards! Some more than 100 yrs old! You could try selling them on E-bay as there are quite a few collectors out there.
Thank you for sharing some of those funny ones.
Your collage is lovely. That wine label is a real find. I'm glad it was good wine otherwise it would have been an expensive label, lol.
    Happy T-Day,

  18. Forsythia can always be counted on to be among the first blooms. Such a bright, cherry yellow. I love coming across old photos/letters/postcards and especially if they're family materials. It'll be enjoyable going through them :) I love how the background on your collage turned out. Beautiful! Happy T Tuesday
