The Birds Are Singing
Happy new week all! Hope you had a great weekend. We had temps to 80 degrees F and of course I was in heaven:) Not only that, but our hummingbirds made their first appearance on May 1st- the earliest I have seen them here since I've been keeping track 5 or 6 years now. What a joy to watch them! I've also gotten the first of my annuals- geranium hanging baskets, and will get more for planting later this week.
The above is a page in a junk journal. I used Tim Holtz Botanical Collage Tissue and Botanical Chip Board image. I will join Art Journal Journey with the new theme for this month of Flowers.
This birthday card is for the Simon Wednesday Challenge (anything goes):
a detail showing the glitter:
Glittery patterned paper: TCWV; white note card and envelope (Recollections); stitched circle dies (Our Daily Bread Designs); birthday rubber stamp(Hero Arts); birthday clear stamps on envie (Inkadinkado); Stickles glitter glue; Versafine Onyx Black ink; Blue Breeze Kaleidacolor ink; paper flower (studio g); washi tape (Recollections).
I have another yummy meal and recipe to share with the gang at T Stands For Tuesday:
Poached salmon, and Smoky Chickpea Stew (recipe at end of post and also under my header under the "Recipes" title) over jasmine rice, and a glass of Merlot. My hubby liked this veggie stew so much we had it two days in a row! This would be good on its own of course but is extra yummy with some fish or grilled chicken on the side:) Cheers!
There is a new theme at Tag Tuesday (haberdashery) and I had the perfect stamp images thanks to Valerie who gifted me with them!
The tag was covered with pattern tissue. I stamped then fussy cut all the images from the stamp set and glued them down after stitching around the tag. I finished it with a black button. I will also share this with Try It On Tuesday for the theme of " Black, White, and One Other Color".
And for Paint Party Friday I have another journal page -this one in the Dina Wakley Media Journal. Inspiration from her Daily Demos, and for the Year Of Gratitude monthly IG Challenge which for April was " I am grateful for community". The new theme will be announced Wednesday the 6th.
It began on a kraft page in the journal, using a mask and black gesso:
Anyone remember these Tim Holtz masks? I bought them for next to nothing some years ago. I don't even know if Ranger still makes them or not.
My completed page:
Wishing you all a great week and weekend- happy Cinco de Mayo Tuesday if you celebrate it, and a happy Mother's Day on Sunday! Take care, and stay well.
" I want to sing like the birds sing, not worrying who listens or what they think." Rumi
Edited in: For whatever reason I am not able to leave a comment for anyone who uses Wordpress for their blog:(:( I have tried from several different browsers to no avail. If anyone has any suggestions I'd SO appreciate it! Know that I am reading your blog posts - just cannot respond.
Smoky Chickpea Stew (It Doesn't taste Like Chicken Blog)
1 Tbsp. olive oil 1 yellow onion, chopped 4 cloves of garlic, minced
1 28 oz can diced tomatoes 1 1/2 tsp. smoked paprika 1 tsp. dried thyme
1 tsp. brown or white sugar 3/4 tsp. salt 2 cups of canned chickpeas, rinsed and drained
about 4 cups of chopped kale or spinach ( I used spinach)
Cooked rice, quinoa, or couscous, for serving
Heat oil in a large pot or high-sided skillet. When hot, add the onion and garlic and sauté about 5 min until onion turns transluscent and begins to brown.
Stir in the tomatoes, smoked paprika, dried thyme, sugar and salt. Continue to cook, stirring often, for 10 - 15 min. until tomatoes have cooked and darkened in color.
Mix in the chickpeas and kale (or spinach) and cook another few min. til heated through and the greens wilt into the sauce. Serve hot over your grain of choice.

Before I forget, let me say thank you for linking up the gorgeous junk journal page to ARt Journal Journey and that black and white and one color tag for Try It on Tuesday. Much appreciated Linda. And you meal looks delicious. I would love that veggie stew, but I know my husband, Mr. Fussy Food Man, wouldn't eat it. Sigh. And your Dina Wakely tag page is super also. We were warm and are now back into a bit cooler temperatures. Oh I can't wait for that warmer weather like this past weekend. Hope you are well and have a wonderful T day. Hugs-Erika
ReplyDeleteWonderful art today, my favorite is your journal page. Your poached salmon looks delicious!
ReplyDeleteHappy Tea Day,
Kate
I loved all of your art Linda, the smokey chickpea stew looks and sounds really good-thank you for the recipe-hubs can't have anything high in vit k any more (his blood thinner) but I could use a different veggie-I want to make this.
ReplyDeleteHappy Mothers Day, Cinco De Mayo and Happy T
Hugs Kathy
Beautiful art and lovely food, yummy. Love the journal pages. I have some of those old TH masks, too. Glad you discovered why you got those stamps, an you have used them to perfection! Thanks so much for linking to Tag Tuesday! Happy T Day, hugs, Valerie
ReplyDelete:-) I open your blog to the sound of birds singing and... :-)
ReplyDeleteI think they sing in bird-German, though.
No, it´s true. German ravens for example are boring. Australian ones really talk!
And my French is nearly gone. Le petit Prince is all I can read these days.
I love your creation! The buttons and notes especially.
Wo-hoo! 80F! I sit here and the thermometer says 37F, some freezing 3C! Certainly no hummingbirds here - I´ve never ever seen one in my life for real.
The tag is great!
Well. It´s irony. Our sewing machine died and they´re all sold out. And Hubby wanted to sew me a dress!
I think I have chickpeas in the kitchen-cupboard. Need to look - a happy T-day to you!
your haberdashery tag is perfection! all the great sewing elements! thank you for linking up to tag tuesday. i love your blog header by the way, inspiring! and your bird piece is also quite lovely! xo
ReplyDeleteBeautiful assortment of artwork, as always. We reached 80 F on Sunday here in Connecticut, which was unseasonably warm, but welcome. Now we're back to more normal temperatures of 50s for highs. I love the pattern on your china. Happy T-Day!
ReplyDeleteYour junk journal is tugging at my heart. I love how you are working in it and I think it's turning out great. I especially love this one because it is so romantic feeling. Thanks for sharing it with us at Art Journal Journey, dear.
ReplyDeleteLOVE that tag. You found some wonderful images to use.
I've never seen or even heard of those masks, but I don't buy many TH products. Your page turned out great, though and the tags you placed on it were fabulous.
Although I'm not a fan of Merlot (tastes too bitter to me), your salmon and chickpea stew sounds wonderful. It is definitely something I might try.
Thanks for sharing your incredible art, your Merlot, and your meal with us for T this Tuesday, dear Linda.
Fantastic art projects Linda, the tag with the haberdashery details looks wonderful, thank you for linking to Try it on Tuesdays. I also love the page from your junk journal that you are sharing with Mia's theme at Art Journal Journey.
ReplyDeleteThe food looked delicious and I will be copying the recipe to try out some time.
Stay safe and have a happy T day day.
Yvonne xx
Lovely flowers page, Linda. I don't recall Tim Holtz masks. I have a thick cardboard die cut in a similar swirly shape that came in a craft kit. I didn't think I'd ever had a use for it. If I seal, I can use it a a mask. Terrific page. Thanks for the inspiration and the recipe.
ReplyDeleteHappy T-Day! Eileen xx
Beautiful tags Linda. Here in T&T 🇹🇹 we say channa rather than chickpea. Curry is a common way of cooking channa here🇹🇹
ReplyDeleteHappy Tuesday
Much👕💚👖love
Hmmm, those chick peas and salmon look really good. I have copied the recipe and will surely try that.(with or without the salmon, which is prohibitively expensive here).Thanks.
ReplyDeleteYour journal page looks great.
I'm glad the weather is better now and what a joy that the hummingbirds are back.
Haberdashery is a really cool theme. It makes you do pretty things.
Happy T-Day,
Hugs,
Lisca

Love the journal page and the tags are fantastic.
ReplyDeleteLove the title of your post. Since the lock-down began here there are very few cars on the roads. The silence is glorious, and we can really hear the birds singing without the continual hum of traffic in the background. Your artwork, as always, is beautiful. Love how you use colour.
ReplyDeleteFun and creative 'Couture' tag art ~ love it ^_^

to be a birdwatcher in springtime is to see life! When you see them nesting and happily feed their young :) With that said. my favorite is your first piece :)
ReplyDeleteTake care, stay safe.
Just scrolled through your last few posts Linda and feasted on your fabulous art! Some beautiful pieces here and lots of little thoughts to ponder. Love your smoky chickpea recipe, too...one for my online 'recipe book', I think. I love chick peas and am sure I have some in.
ReplyDeleteI especially love your top piece and loved your Happy Bearthday cards to Elisabeth :-) Great idea.
Checked the link for masks, too. A friend of mine has made me a couple but I'd love to have a go myself. Haven't used my sewing machine in years, so will have to dust it off...;-)
Stay safe.
