It's a special week because we are not only celebrating Earth Day on Wednesday, but it also happens to be Elizabeth's (Altered Book Lover) bEARTHday! I am so sorry that I was remiss in sending out a card so please accept a virtual one here. The butterflies on the papers are all covered with glitter and I wish you could see how much prettier these are in person. Happy birthday dear Elizabeth!! And in honor of Earth day I changed my blog header to a mixed media page I did a few years ago in honor of the day.
We had some quite nice, and also some very chilly weather with a few snow flurries beginning on Friday. Thank goodness it came and went turning into just a bit of rain. Saturday morning I was able to sit out back at the picnic table with my coffee and a book for a bit. I had on a heavy sweatshirt and sat in the sun which kept me warm enough.
Dreaming of my favorite places again... and I know someone who is doing the same. Right Chris? ;)
Grab a beverage related post and join us for T Stands For Tuesday and please wish our dear hostess a happy bEARTHday too!
Recently I was inspired by abstract, doodled bookmarks that Kim Dellow shared on Instagram so I made a set of index cards:
This is how I began them. I chose several of my favorite vibrant acrylic paints and painted some random shapes.
More colors and shapes were added:
and then even more:
And these are the completed cards with the doodling using Posca pens:
There is a new theme for Tag Tuesday which is "Anything Goes" so as I had paints and Dina Wakley things at my fingertips I made this tag:
Lastly for this post I have a journal page which I will link to Art Journal Journey (theme is Geometric Shapes), Try It On Tuesday (Fun With Stencils), and Paint Party Friday:
I've been watching Dina Wakley's daily demos videos ( on her blog or on You Tube) and thoroughly enjoying the art and the chats! One day she talked about using black gesso which I really don't use often enough so that was my inspiration for this page. I smeared the black gesso onto a kraft page in the Dina Wakley Media Journal then used some of her bright paints and stencils over it. Added spattering with the blue and pink watered down paints and then some large white drops using white ink. The circle was one I had previously made and thought it went well on the page.
Have a great week and always remember to care for and respect our earth. I hope we are now slowly turning the corner in ridding the planet of Covid 19. Stay well everyone.
"The Earth will not continue to offer its harvest, except with faithful stewardship. We cannot say we love the land and then take steps to destroy it for use by future generations.”

Loving your artwork. The doodles are wonderful. So many layers. You cards are great as well...love that you were able to get two for one cards with the circle cuts. Brilliant.
ReplyDeleteThat is a fabulous new header Linda. I really like it. And your cards are bright and happy! You have been on a roll! Your weather sounds like ours, and I have been sitting outside reading also. You have a good book choice too. I have read it and enjoyed it. Hope you are also, and hope you have a super T day. Stay healthy. Hugs-Erika
ReplyDeleteOh Linda, how sweet of you, my dear. I asked that people NOT send me anything this year, so I am glad you didn't. This beautiful virtual acknowledgment is definitely how I wish to celebrate this year. Thank you for that and thank you for the wonderful bEARTHday wishes, too.
ReplyDeleteYou have created some beautiful art this week. I'm not a doodler, but you have given me ideas for when we start making ICADs this year. Those colors are so bright and neon. Reminds me of the 80s. Very colorful and fun.
Your tag is lovely. You are always clever when it comes to tags. Somehow I'm no good with tags.
I love how you used one of your old circles to add to the page you chose for Valerie's theme. Well done with the added stencils and black gesso, something I have never owned. Thank you for sharing this with us at Art Journal Journey, dear.
You braved the cold to drink your coffee on the back patio? Good for you. Yes, I suspect Chris is dreaming about Provence, too. Thanks for sharing your incredible art, your coffee and book on the patio, AND my lovely birthday cards with us for T this nearly Tuesday.
Lots of beautiful art, love the bright cards and the beautiful tag and the lovely journal page, well done! And thanks for joining us at Tag Tuesday, too! Glad you are keeping bus in such a productive way. Happy T Day, hugs, Valerie
ReplyDeleteLove your doodles but even more so the tag!
ReplyDeleteToo cold to sit outside, even in the sun.
A happy T-day to you.
Those cards are really cool. Great shapes and colors!
ReplyDeleteA super post Linda, the art as always is inspiring. I love the doodled bright index cards. My favourite has to be your journal page that you are sharing with Valerie;s theme at Art Journal Journey abd with us at Try it on Tuesdays. The black background looks super and thanks for the heads up about the Dina Wakley demos.
ReplyDeleteThe new header looks fabulous as well
Happy T day wishes.
Take care and stay safe.

ReplyDeleteAnd let me send you big thanks for joining us at both Art Journal Journey and Try It on Tuesday. My head wasn't quite with it last night with the news of my mom. Glad you joined us Linda. Hugs-Erika
ReplyDeleteI love your new header! And the quote by the pope at the end.
ReplyDeleteThose little cards are really great! So colourful! Each one of them a work of art. The doodling really finished them off and made them into something really special.
You're reading Pater Mayle. I haven't read that one. I read A Year In Provence when it came out at the time and really enjoyed it. He died two years ago, did you know?
Happy T-Day, (I won't tell you to stay at home. As Iris says: we are not children and yes, we got the message.)
Lisca

ReplyDeleteThe saying at the end fits wonderfully into this difficult time!

I am loving your abstract cards as well as all your mixed media art. You have inspired me to hop over to Dina's fb page and watch those videos. I saw that she was making them but have not taken the time to watch. I have black gesso as well but rarely use it so that sounds like a video I might enjoy. Thanks for the inspiration.
ReplyDeleteHappy Tea Day,
Kate
So much terrific art ~ I love your tag reminding us to be kind to ourselves. The doodling looks like fun ~bright and happy~ Great header in honor of Earth day too ~ Blessings
ReplyDeleteGreat cards, tag and doodles, Linda. The "You are Vast" page is stunning! I've NEVER usd black gesso.

It was good to see how your doodle cards developed.
ReplyDeleteReally loving all of your colorful art work! gorgeous cards and tags! Happy T day!
ReplyDeleteIt's been raining and raining and raining and snowing and raining and raining all month. It would be lovely to sit outside with a cup of tea and to read a book or just to sit in the sun!Lovely art. Your doodle cards are so cheery. Happy T Day
ReplyDeleteThe first thing that hit me was your header, I thought it had been done especially because of the pandemic but now reading your blog I realise it was for Earth Day. It is a fabulous header.
ReplyDeleteLove your geometric patterns and how you turned them into cards with the doodling - that gives each of them such impact.
Also like your Dina tag and your submission for the AJJ challenge. The black gesso looks good against the kraft, perhaps something I will try myself soon. Thanks!
Hugs, Neet xx
Love the black paint creation ~ so unique ~ and your header always grabs me ~ ^_^

Adorable patterns and the journal is very dramatic! Love your header, it's amazing with beautiful message.
ReplyDeleteyour header is awesome. I always enjoy your little portraits for their sensitivity too.
ReplyDeleteI love all your cards, Linda and your first piece ath top of the page is brilliant! I just did a piece on a Dina Wakely brown page in her sketchbook. I haven't figured out what to do with the pages that are burlap. I did gesso the center of one, but haven't painted on it yet. If you have an idea of how to use those burlap pages, let me know. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous work this week Linda!

I like your cards as a set in that image. I can see it as printed cloth, maybe sewn as a skirt. Would look nice. :)
ReplyDeleteI missed this(I had a 'down' week) probably because yes, I was thinking about being in Paris. I love the art work Linda! I must catch up with Dina Wakley videos! I love that last page! Hugs, Chrisx
