Thalassophile - that's me!
The word comes from Greek origins and means "lover of the sea". Sadly and most likely we won't be having our beach week in Delaware with our friends- first summer in many years:(:( Delaware was just added to the "quarantine" list along with an increasing number of states. That means once we got back to PA we'd have to self quarantine for 14 days! Hubby is still working so he can't just take 14 days off with no pay. And another couple who go are in the same predicament. Oh how I miss seeing the ocean... so I will make do with many happy memories and creating beach/summer themed art.
The tag above is for Tag Tuesday's new challenge "The Sea". In two of the corners of the vintage image I used actual jingle shells I had collected over the years and just crushed some to put on my art projects.
In keeping with the theme of "When It's Hot" this month over at Art Journal Journey I have this journal page to share:
The colorful blue strips? They are painter's tape strips I had used to mask a border for another page and when I peeled them off I knew I had to reuse them in my art somehow! Page is in the Dina Wakley Blue Edition Media Journal. For the sunray stencil (Tim Holtz) I used Dina Wakley Lemon and a bit of Cheddar paints. Sentiment and image from a magazine clip art folder I keep. And I would SO love to have that dress:)
There is a special celebration going on at T Stands For Tuesday as it is the 7th year Bleubeard and Elizabeth of Altered Book Lover have been hosting. Stop by, give Elizabeth some love, and do visit the other links to see how varied our posts can be- and then join in won't you? It truly is a place I look forward to each week! Thank you for providing us such a lovely place to gather weekly and congratulations on 7 years- here's to many more!! Edited in: Forgive me for not visiting you Karen but I am not able to leave a comment on your blog:( Oh, I need a beverage related photo to link and here it is:
I made a batch of the Apple Cinnamon Quinoa for breakfast again:) We do love this! I have the link for the post that includes this recipe under the "Recipes" tab just below my blog header:)
Now on to my latest ICADS (Index Card a Day) Challenge I am participating in on Instagram:
37/61
38/61
39/61
40/61
41/61
42/61
43/61
Loving my self imposed challenge of using only a few paint colors or Gloss Sprays along with bits from the Collage Collective book (all Dina Wakley products), perhaps a tissue paper scrap, spatters, Posca pen marks for my one word affirmation card series.
And that does it for me this time around. Also happy to link with Paint Party Friday!

It's too bad you won't make it to the beach this year, but the virus isn't about to stop, so it's better to be safe. Self quarantining isn't much of an option, either, since your husband is working again. I adore the tag you made for Tag Tuesday. It's really a great sea side beauty. I also like the shells you used and the gold shell covering the hole, too.
ReplyDeleteYou are amazing, Linda. I absolutely LOVE that journal page you created using painter's tape. That was brilliant. Nothing goes to waste in your art room either, I take it. Thanks for another lovely entry using Erika's theme at Art Journal Journey.
I like your use of words and washi tapes you use in your ICADs. Those Dina images are so clever, too. I keep wondering if you are going to come up with enough encouraging words to last through July 31. I think they are brilliant, and fun to see, too.
I had my friend Scott pick up some quinoa at the store, so I can make your apple cinnamon quinoa. It sounds wonderful, so I'm going to give it a try. I may substitute peaches for apples, because peaches are so tender and tasty right now where I live. And of course, I'll have mine with coffee, just like you have.
Thanks for sharing your tag, journal page, and ICADs with us, along with your breakfast and coffee for T this not quite Tuesday, dear Linda.
Hi Linda, so sorry you had to cancel your trip to the ocean. I have turned off all the news, and stopped reading online-to keep my stress level down-and didn't know that cases were rising again.
ReplyDeleteHow cool that you reused your painters tape-I never would have thought of that. Loved your art this week and your pretty cup too Happy T Kathy
Sorry you will not be going to the beach, but thanks for making that lovely tag for Tag Tuesday, I knew you would like this theme! Wonderful journal page and ICADS, love the sparkly bits. Your breakfast looks good, too. Happy T Day, hugs, Valerie
ReplyDeleteThalassophile ... I think I can also find myself in this word!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely LOVE that journal page! Lovely!
I join in, so sad you cannot see the ocean. Hubby has two weeks off and we stay home. And it´s cold. Wearing socks and winter slippers, gahhhh.
ReplyDeleteOur kitchen is red green. Your beach-lady would love mine!
A happy T-day to you, reckon this year will be in our minds and souls for a long time for so many missed events. Trying to send a parcel to the Philippines. Since May. Code orange. Post office says "no".
So sorry you are going to be missing your trip this year. The missed memories are going to be big this year, but maybe we will look back and think it was good to spend time at home as well. Your beach tag is fun - love the girl and the textures. Your journal page with blue painters tape is genius! Fun stuff all around. Hugz
ReplyDeleteLovely tags. Happy Tuesday Linda. I'd like to think im 70 and still gorgeous 😊

This virus is really messing up everyone's summer, isn't it? Two of my nieces are supposed to be married and one of them has already cancelled her wedding. Plus there are lots of other plans...but what can we do. Glad to hear your husband is back to work though. And I love all the art today. It must have taken you awhile to lay out those sequins to photograph your cool ICADS. And nice beach ICAD, even if the story with it is definitely disappointing. But I do love your piece for AJJ which is a good thing! You certainly captured the hot colors! The girl looks a bit sad too, but I guess that is to be expected during this Covid-19 time. Thanks for joining in at AJJ. It is much appreciated. Hope you have a happy T day. Hugs-Erika
ReplyDeleteFantastic art projects and an awesome beach page you have linked to Erika's theme at Art Journal Journey, thank you for the inspiration.
ReplyDeleteIts a shame you are missing your holiday, but its best to be safe.
Happy T day wishes.
Yvonne xx

These are wonderful works. The Beachjounral in particular is fabulously designed!
ReplyDeleteIt's a shame that everything has gotten so bad because of Corona and you can't meet your friends for the beach week.
Take care of yourself and have a good time, hugs Elke
I love your Greek word. Sorry you have to give up your beach trip. At least your beach tag will help with the happy memories and planning the trip for next year. Your ICAD collages are wonderful and I like the striking colors. Take care and Happy T Day
ReplyDeleteYour art is so pretty! May I ask what you do with your index cards?
ReplyDeleteThat is disappointing that you were not able to visit the beach. I noticed that PA added more states to the quarantine list. PA needs more beaches for sure.
Happy Tea Day,
Kate
Too bad about your beach vacation, Linda. We're very lucky to have wonderful vacation memories. I've been dreaming about some of our favorite vacation places too.
ReplyDeleteExcellent tag.
You painter's tape steps are lovely. Thanks for telling us how you created them.
Very pretty painterly - mug perfect for an artist.
Fabulous ICADs.
Happy T-Day! Hugs, Eileen
Such beautiful art! I love how you used up all those scraps and your summer page is gorgeous 😁. Sorry your missing your hols as I know how much you enjoy it, I have a few friends who are missing their hols too - best to keep safe! Happy T Day wishes! Hugs, Jo x
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry to hear you cannot have your ocean vacation with your friends. I know how much you love that. Many of us have had their holiday plans ruined by Covid.
ReplyDeleteYour journal page is great. Yes I love that dress too. I love the way you re-used those strips.
Your breakfast quinoa looks yummy. (I have copied the recipe, thanks)
Happy(belated) T-Day,
Hugs,
Lisca
I'm sorry you won't be able to have your ocean vacation this year. Sounds like PA is using the same quarantine rules as CT. (I think CT's list is now up to 22 states that are on the banned list. NY complained when RI did that to them at the beginning of this, but now NY is doing it to the same list of states as CT.) Your artwork is lovely. I always enjoy seeing Summer themed art. Your food looks delicious. Happy belated T-Day!
ReplyDeleteWhat a summer eh? Lovely and wishful first art creation ~ on your blog ~
ReplyDeleteOur beaches have been overrun and now Mayor has shut them down to Residents only ~ Gridlock this past weekend and parking everywhere ~ I couldn't even get to other side of town to visit with my sister ~ World has gone mad.

I love your summery tag and your hot page! Your breakfast does look and sound delicious but a little too sweet for me I think!! Your ICADs are absolutely wonderful and I know I have said it before but I am enjoying seeing them! Belated Happy T Day! Chrisx
ReplyDeleteLovely index cards. How do you use them? I have seen others doing the index card a day and wondered how they were used. On journal or scrap pages is what I thought. Sorry about you not being able to go to the beach. I miss our traveling! I am thinking we will probably never take another cruise!
ReplyDeleteHappy T Day!
Hi Linda, happy PPF, and have a wonderful weekend. Stay safe, hugs, Valerie

ReplyDeleteGreat work on the ICADS and a really fabulous tag - but it's those painty strips which are the highlight for me in this post. A brilliant spot to see that they had to be repurposed into some more artwork. Belated happy PPF!
