Making a Splash
How's everyone doing? Staying cool in the Northern Hemisphere? Many of us are enduring sweltering heat at the moment- a true heat wave with temps to near 100 and feeling even hotter with the humidity in my parts! How nice it would be to take a dip in the ocean now...
This is the full journal journal page meant for Art Journal Journey for the theme this month of "When It's Hot" along with the Simon Says Monday Challenge for the theme of "A Day at The Beach", and the new theme at Try It On Tuesday "Summertime" ::
This page is in the original Dina wakley Media Journal on one of the kraft pages. Products: Dina Wakley paints- Marine, Lime, Peacock; Dina Wakley stencils- Pebble Hearts, Mini Favorites; Dina Wakley White Gloss Spray; pink, orange Posca pens; vintage clip art.
On Sunday I had my Mom over (for the first time since early March d/t Covid -19!) to give her a belated little birthday celebration dinner. We only had our son and future DIL come also:
Whenever we have more than 4 we move our table from the kitchen into the adjoining den for more room. That table set is over 35 years old- and you can see it -ach! I should have used a tablecloth to cover the worn edges. But as you can see I kept it very informal and simple. We had baked ziti, salads, rolls and wine and water. And then dessert:
I made a sponge cake with homemade whipped cream, strawberries and blueberries - a favorite light, summer dessert. Two more photos of our gathering:
Cheers to the gang at T Stands For Tuesday! Note: although I do read your posts Karen I am unable to leave any comments on your site-sorry:(
Another journal page:
In the Dina Wakley Media Journal on a cotton rag watercolor page. I made this for the Dina Wakley/Ranger Year of Gratitude Challenge. The June prompt was "I am grateful for second chances". I just finished the July page but I'll save that one for next week;)
Products: Dina Wakley Collage faces tissue paper; Dina Wakley Pebble Hearts , Mini Favorites stencils; Dina Wakley paints- Sedona, Fuschia, Blackberry; Black Marabu Art Spray; Blue, Pink dry chalks.
And I'll end my post again with my latest batch of index card art for the 61 day ICAD Challenge on Instagram:
ICAD 44/61
ICAD 45/61
ICAD 46/61
ICAD 47/61
ICAD 48/61
ICAD 49/61
ICAD 50/61
Linking with Paint Party Friday also. Have a cool, safe week everyone!

I love the sketch of the soulful woman's face. And your lunch dessert sounds delicious.

Keeping simple is the best thing in this heat, isn't it? Your mother's birthday cake looks perfect for summer. I hope she enjoyed her party. And more great art this week too. Thanks for linking that lovely beach lady up to AJJ. I like how you used just a bit of color and left so much "white" space-though not white. I love how you use those sequins with the ICADS too. And thanks for the ATC. It was fun to get. I will show it next week. I hope you cool off soon and have a wonderful week Linda. Hugs-Erika
ReplyDeleteGreat art this week, and I really love your ICAD's yours are my favorites for this challenge.
ReplyDeleteSo nice you were able to put together a family celebration-the cake looks delicious.
we are super hot and humid here as well-did get a bit of a storm this morning-but back up in temps again I think we are in a heat cycle for few weeks.
Happy T wishes Kathy
Enjoyed your latest art. I'm glad you were able to visit your Mom. We are still (or maybe again) on lock down. I haven't visited my family since March. Several members are "essential workers" in one job or another so we stay apart. It is SO hard - as everyone knows.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful art again, your ICADS are the best I have seen, well done. Glad you were able to celebrate wit your Mom, the cake looks wonderful. Have a good week, take care and stay safe, hugs, Valerie
ReplyDeleteI want to begin with your ICADs. I love each of them this week. I guess the three with the hearts were my favorite, though. I was also mesmerized as I enlarged and looked at each with the sequins in the background.
ReplyDeleteYour Day at the Beach was beautiful. I was especially impressed with the composition and the stencil you used. It's a great page for Art Journal Journey, too.
Two things before I get to your mother's birthday party. First, thank you for the nice gift from you today. Next week I'll share it with everyone. Second, I've never owned air dried clay, but I might try some poly clay in that mold. What gets me is, the mold is like none I've seen before. Others have a bottom, but this goes all the way through.
Now for your mother's party. That cake is out of this world. It's pretty, too. In the first photo with the four around the table, I swear your son looks SO much like his father, I have to ask are you sure you're his mother (GRIN!!!). However, the photo where he's sitting next to his dad, I can see you in him. Photos are amazing.
Looks like you had a wonderful time and your mother is beautiful. So glad you were all able to get together, too. Lots of drinks and lots of wine to chose from, too. Thanks for sharing your beautiful art, ICADs, and your mother's party, meal, and drinks with us for T this Tuesday, dear Linda.
Lovely art. I specially love the journal page 'second chance'. Beautiful.
ReplyDeleteGreat that you could have your mum over. That must have been so special. Lovely pictures of your family and this special occasion.
You should have stayed schtumm about the table. I didn't see it at all.
Wishing you a very happy T-Day,
Hugs,
Lisca
Beautiful artwork and great photos. I like the worn look of the table. I'm glad you were able to celebrate your Mom's birthday, even if it was late. It's very hot where I am too. :-( Happy T-Day!

Great "make a splash" page, Linda. I love the wild backround and splatters.
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice family gathering. Isn't it nice to gather again?
I love the bright background on your second "chance" page.
I enjoy seeing your very cool ICADs. Eleven more to go?
Happy T-Day! Hugs, Eileen
I love celebrations with just family. You don't have to get fussy. Yummy dinner and that cake looks fabulous. Your artwork is wonderful, but your day at the beach made me smile. I see the bathing beauty if wearing stockings. My mother used to sing a little ditty about the stockings women had to wear in the 1920s 1930s: Roll 'em, girls, roll 'em. Roll 'em down and show your shaggy knees! Stay cool and Happy T Day!
ReplyDeleteSo many beautiful art pieces! The bright colours and seaside themes are gorgeous 😁. Looks like you had a fun time with your family and wishing your mum a very happy birthday too! Take care and Happy T Day wishes! Hugs, Jo x
ReplyDeleteGlad you were able to enjoy company. SO many great bright and happy pieces of art ~ I like how you sprinkled sequins around for the photos as well. Enjoy your week!
ReplyDeleteLove your beach page! Love craft as a base for artwork. Lovely index cards, too. That is wonderful you could have a small party for your mom. Someday...maybe we will be back to normal... Happy T Day!
ReplyDeleteFabulous journal pages Linda!I really must get my first page in my Dina Wakley Journal! How great to have a family celebration! Your ICADs are absolutely brilliant! Happy T Day, Chrisx
ReplyDeleteAnd thanks Linda for joining Try It On Tuesday also!

that's so cute the summer journal and the other works of art! A great idea that you were having a family celebration to make your mother happy and the cake looks delicious too.
ReplyDeleteGreetings Elke
Love your bathing lady - she looks good with her hair tied up in a turban like that - and she certainly seems to be having a great time.
ReplyDeleteLovely face on your DW journal page too - I have never tried to paint on a fabric page but I guess it is no different to me painting on a canvas bag, I should try it.
Great iCAD's too, love the way you have done these - I am doing them for two months but may carry on.
Thanks for sharing so many lovely photos too - looks like a good time was had by all.
hugs, Neet xx

Hi Linda, It is so wonderful that you got to have a belated birthday celebration for your mom! Your lunch sounds delicious and I especially like the photo of your mom with her cake!
