Keeping Creative During The Heat
Yikes- another heat wave has hit us- too hot to be outdoors very long even for me! So I did what enjoy most- making delicious salads, baking, and playing in my art room!
A bunch of pages in my art journals got splattered, sprayed and stenciled for great backgrounds. I used Dina Wakley Gloss Sprays and I should have taken a photo of what my hands looked like afterward:):) It took a bit of scrubbing to get them clean again- but I don't mind cuz I don't like wearing gloves unless absolutely necessary. What about you?
So here is one completed page meant for Art Journal Journey (When It's Hot theme- and when it's hot I stay in and make art;), and the Simon Says Monday Blog Challenge (Art Journal):
This page was done in the Dina Wakley Blue Media Journal-inside cover page.
Products: Dina Wakley- journal, Faces Collage Tissue, Words Collage Tissue, Leafy Stencil, Mini Favorites Stencil, Gloss Sprays- Turquoise, Lemon. Other- pink, blue Posca pens, Stabilo All black pencil. Speaking of gloss sprays and Dina Wakley- I am signed up for a class she has on all the ways you can create with gloss sprays. I plan on watching some of the videos and playing later.
Two weeks ago Bleubeard and Elizabeth of Altered Book Lover celebrated the 7th anniversary of T Stands For Tuesday and some of us participated in making an ATC to send out to another person in the link who was also playing. We are sharing our happy mail and art with each other in today's post and link up. Do come and join us and see what everyone's been doing won't you?
Here are two ATCs I made- one I sent to Elizabeth and the other to Erika:
The backgrounds were cut from a paper towel mop up of ink sprays. I simply added a Dina Wakley Collage Collective circle (edges sponged with black ink), Chit Chat word stickers from Tim Holtz, washi tapes (Recollections), and dragonfly brads.
And look what Elizabeth sent me:
I love the darling ATC, and what's not to love about receiving ephemera to play with. I visited London many years ago and fell in love with the city and this postcard took me right back to those happy memories! The paper behind it is really special as it was handmade by Elizabeth. It has a beautiful feel and texture and I hope I can somehow do justice to it and show it off in my art projects along the way. Thank you thank you dear Elizabeth! And as we need something drink related to link up I will use her ATC with the kitty and teacup for my ticket in;)
I made this tag for the Simon Says Wednesday Blog Challenge (Reach For The Stars):
Products: manila tag, Texture Paste (Ranger); Tim Holtz- Falling Stars stencil, Paper Dolls, Quote Chips; Dina Wakley Collage Collective, Gloss Spray-white; Dylusions ink sprays- London Blue, After Midnight; Versafine Onyx Black ink; Diamond Stickles glitter glue (Ranger).
And again I will end this post with my latest index card art for the Daisy Yellow Index Card a Day Challenge on IG. Only 4 more to go and I will have completed the 61 day challenge- woohoo!

Hi, Really enjoyed all the art today that you created. I am with you I hardly ever wear gloves-unless I am using dye.
ReplyDeleteWe finally got a little cooler weather today Happy T Kathy
Happy T day Linda. I love your gorgeous ATC you sent. Thanks again. And I also love your latest piece for AJJ. I'm with you. It has been so hot staying in and making art is the best thing to do. I also like your ICADS for this week. You've definitely been having fun. Say cool. And have wonderful T day. Hugs-Erika
ReplyDeleteLots of beautiful art again. Enjoy the hot days. Have a fun week, happy T Day, hugs, Valerie
ReplyDeleteYou all have a fab summer and we freeze our butts off (Germany), crazy weather!
ReplyDeleteIf I wasn´t afraid. I had a job now. Hope you don´t mind, I´ll download this to brave up. (It´ll stay in my home)
Great works, a happy T-day!
Wow, you have been busy, Linda. Hard to say which is my favorite thing in your post, but probably your fun tag and the page you did for AJJ - those words make me think. We would probably do so much if we were not afraid! Your ICADS are fab as well - love the faces! Hugz
ReplyDeleteSo much terrific art on this post! Your smart to stay in and play and avoid the heat :) Fantastic work for the index card challenge ~ Happy T day ~
ReplyDeleteGreat backgrounds and pages, Linda.. Your ATCs are beautiful. You have a great eye for composition. I don't use gloves when I paint except for alcohol inks. Those are impossible to wash off your skin!
ReplyDeleteThe ICADs are wonderful! More great compositions.
Happy T-day! Hugs, Eileen
I have this theory about my internet. It knows exactly when it's Monday at 4 pm, so it immediately goes offline. ATT said they'd send someone Tuesday morning between 8 and noon. Looks like they did, since I'm now online.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely LOVE your HOT entry for Erika's theme at Art Journal Journey. I really like that new journal you are using, too. I've seen it on a couple of other sites recently, too. Thanks for the lovely entry.
That's a great tag. I like how it shows the beautiful stars so well. As for your ICADs, I think my favorites are 54 and 57. They are all great, but these stuck out, I thought.
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the beautiful ATC you sent me. And that card is wonderful, too. Thank you again for everything you have sent me over the years. I never forget the beautiful things you send, including the transparencies and post cards from Route 66. My gift to you pales in comparison to everything you have done for me over the years, dear friend. Thanks for sharing your art and your ICADs with us for T this Tuesday. So nice to use Bleubeard in his cup for T this Tuesday, too.
I am loving your postcard art this week as well as your Dina Wakley page. Beautiful and bold as usual. What a great way to spend the hot days. Crafting inside to keep cool sounds like a wonderful plan.
ReplyDeleteHappy Tea Day,
Kate
Spending time crafting is perfect on hot days and it looks like you have been busy! The tag is beautiful and the ATCs that you created look amazing, I'm sure they will be much loved 😁. Such a gorgeous ATC and goodies too - Happy 7th Anniversary and T Day wishes! Hugs, Jo x
ReplyDeleteYour sketch of a face with "what would you do..." is really beautiful. I like the soft lines and the technique.
ReplyDeletebe well... mae at maefood.blogspot.com
Wow Linda what a beautiful post. All of the art is wonderful. I'm sorry it is so hot there. Wish you could send some to me. It is 50° and it rained last night. I will be lucky to get ti 65° today. Stay cool and enjoy your day.
ReplyDeleteYour journal page is lovely. I love that face. What would I do if I were not afraid? Well, I'm not afraid, and I think I have always done what I dreamt of, because as a nurse, I know how short life is. When a patient with the same age and same name as I died of cancer, I decided that I would follow my dreams and I am happy I did.
ReplyDeleteYour ATCs are beautiful. I saw it also on Elizabeth's blog.
Happy belated T-Day,
Hugs,
Lisca
I don't envy the heat but I would love to see more sun in these parts! Your journal page is fabulous - very thought provoking! Love the ATCs and of course the ICADs! Belated Happy T Day! Chrisx
ReplyDeleteYou've made lovely artwork again this week. Lovely goodies in the mail. Happy belated T-Day!
ReplyDeleteSorry I am late visiting you Linda. All your art looks fantastic and thank you for sharing with Erika's theme at AJJ as well.

ReplyDeleteHi Linda :)) So nice to be back to PPF. I love your index cards and way to go on the 61 day challenge!! Very cool! :) The ATG art is so beautiful and I love that you are all creating for each other. That's just so nice. Thanks for sharing! :) xx
ReplyDeleteLovely art Linda!
ReplyDeleteLots wonderful artworks. so great ideas.
ReplyDeleteHave a happy week, hugs, Elke
What a great post - full of lovely stuff. Obviously I've already been enjoying the ICADs over on IG, but the page here is fabulous too. Love the tag with those textural stars and the ATCs are a treat. Nope, no gloves for me. Surely the getting messy is half the fun!

Loving your journal pages
ReplyDeleteNo kidding it been hot and it good time to stay in cool art room and create..PPF
ReplyDeleteLovely selection Linda, I can just imagine your hands after using the sprays but it's part of the fun of creating isn't it. Powerful worlds upon your journal page. Your ICADS are awesome, i'd love to have extra time to play along with that challenge. Your goodies received from Elizabeth are fab, as is your ATC's sent to Elizabeth & Erika..
ReplyDeleteHappy creative week ahead & PPF Tracey xx
so much good work. I think if we had surgeons gloves, where you could really feel things it would be easier. When I dye fabric I put on the longest elbow yellow rubber gloves available, to save my skin. Your heart pieces are so pretty, love complex backgrounds, and I. am. always. afraid.
ReplyDeleteLeeAnna
I don't like wearing gloves either unless I HAVE to. Your evocative AJJ page made me think. Inspiring ICADs and tags. Backgrounds from paper towel - what a clever idea! I often have paint on my paper towel from wiping my brush and it does look lovely afterwards. Thanks so much for the idea!
ReplyDelete-Soma
Really nice art. I don't like wearing gloves unless I really have to either.
ReplyDeleteLovely pieces! Especially love the "What would you do..." and "Choose to shine". Happy PPF!
ReplyDeleteI don´t mind gloves if they are the soft kind fitting your hand so it feels like skin. :) Love your colorful Index cards :)
