February 1st's Gift

We have been so fortunate the last few days to have temperatures in the 40's  (and going into the 50's the next two days) to melt away those tremendous piles of snow we've had!

Being it is now February my thoughts are definitely on Valentine's Day- my favorite holiday along with Thanksgiving, and getting closer to spring. To my absolute delight and surprise I was greeted by a large group of birds like this one taken in my back yard this afternoon:

When the robins appear they are a sure sign that spring is not far away! And I will choose to take this sign any day over what any groundhog may reveal tomorrow (Groundhog Day) as to whether we have 6 more weeks of winter if he sees his shadow, or if he doesn't and we have an early spring. I watched the robins digging up their worms in my yard and singing and it truly made my heart do a happy dance!!

There is a new theme over at Art Journal Journey  . I was hoping to have a completed journal page to enter but alas that didn't happen. Here is the WIP:

Napkins and some gelatos...and then my muse just up and left-hmph! Thankfully she WAS with me when I made these cards:

My cards and ornaments are almost all finished by using a pouch of Valentine scraps of papers and bits so I'll share the rest in my next post.

Linking to Moo Mania and More (Use Your Scraps); the Simon Wednesday Challenge (Anything Goes); and T Stands for Tuesday.

Wishing you all a wonderful week, and whatever makes YOU break out into the happy dance!

  5. Oh that quote really speaks to me dear Linda!
I know what you mean about the robins.
I was beside myself when a gaggle of them came to visit with all of that snow still on the ground. We have a heated fountain that hey enjoyed until the worms were visible again :-)
Fun to see you in Valentine creativity mode!
Happy T Day and Happy February oxo

  7. I have never understood the significance of the shadow that poor Punxsutawney Phil either sees or doesn't. It has always seemed backward to me, and if he sees his shadow, it means it's sunny and the sun should keep shining all the way through spring. But that's not the legend, so who am I to dispute it, right? Still, it seems backward and confusing.

I love your Tea for Two and your Valentine. They are both adorable. And I really think that Paris love journal entry is already looking better than anything I could come up with.

Thanks for sharing your art and your spring inspired robin with us for T this week. Again, love the card with the teapot tag!

  11. I love hearing what the weather is like where there's snow. Last year we had a snow in March, but it's hard to picture that happening this year since today we have a predicted high of 75F lol

We have robins year 'round, and aren't they sweet! I call them yard birds, and they sometimes seem almost tame.

    What lovely valentines :)

  12. I agree with E, your Paris page looks great. The hearts pop right off the page.
I haven't seen a Robin in years......wonder why...we used to have them drop by each year.....but I do have two doves that appear each morning.
    Your Valentines are adorable.
Happy T-day and thanks for the comment.

  16. Love your art and cards! ...and I saw a robin today too...I was wondering if it made a mistake. Feb. in Ohio is not the normal time to see them, usually it's more like March...enjoyed the Van Gogh quote too...happy T day!

  17. Those cards are great! Made form scraps? Even better.
Love the little robin. We don't get them here (at least I have never seen one).
Your journal page will get finished at some stage. It is certainly a very good start. Start whistling and I'm sure your muse will come back, lol.
    Thanks for commenting earlier and
    Have a good week,

  19. Both the cards are lovely. Hope you will soon be inspired to finish the journal page. That happens to me many times. Sometimes i will not feel motivated to finish a page for days.
Thank you Linda for your kind words on my post. I did not put price tags on them but kept some of the pieces open for sale. But, I'm happy that I got couple of kids who are interested in taking classes from me-:)
I'm also so happy about this weather.Let's hope that we have an early Spring

  29. Lovely work Linda.... I remember how much you love Valentines Day :)

I had two robins, one either side of me when I was working on my allotment on Thursday. One was just 30 cms away from me! It felt really special :)

  30. Your journal is well on its way and is going to be lovely when you finish. The doily and the key on the second one is just the best. So simple yet real perfection. I collect old master keys so was drawn immediately to it.
