Wow- so many crazy weather happenings around the world lately! Hope everyone is faring well throughout it all. We totally lucked out this weekend and only had a very brief storm Sunday although I know many other areas along the Northeast got battered and even lost power.
For my T Stands For Tuesday troupe over at Bleubeard and Elizabeth's blog:
From the other week- a birthday lunch for LuAnn at our favorite Irish place of course! I bet you even know I chose my usual and what it is:):)
The reason for the title of this post:
I went through my markers again, tossing old dried out ones and then made a color chart of my Spectrum Noir alcohol markers (the large chart) which are similar to the Copics but cost much less, and a set of water based markers. They both have dual tips- a huge plus. I have been using the alcohol markers for this:
yes, more coloring in my book. The daisies have been glittered but it was difficult to capture with my little camera.
the above is the front of the page and the back side. Alcohol markers do bleed through but I thought the back looked pretty too.
I really enjoyed hearing everyone's thoughts on this coloring book craze and as hesitant as I was myself it has now prepared me for an online lesson from Radiant Faces which is a lesson on creating a stylized face using, yup, alcohol markers! I'll be sharing that next week when I finish but for now here is another Radiant Faces Lesson page (link is on the upper right sidebar):
This lesson was taught by Christy Tomlinson- the Girly Girl face. A wonderful lesson! Done in my 9" x 12" Mixed Media journal. The opening photo is a close up of her hair-layers of colors and scratching out too. I am determined to finish all my lessons now so I can feel good about signing up for another class or two later. I am being good because the selections of online classes thru various artists sites are SO very tempting-especially when there is a sale involved:):) Oh, and please do let me know if you are taking a course you love-I'll check it out!
Joining Paint Party Friday and Art It Friday - Show Your Face later this week. See you soon!

I was amazed at how those pens bled through, and how pretty they are from the other side. If you hadn't shown the front and back together, I would never have known they were the exact same page.
ReplyDeleteMy friend Kathy collects both the Spectrum Noir and the Copics. She says the only reason she likes the Copics is because they are refillable. I have never used one, so have no idea which I would prefer.
Your face is incredible. So glad you are finishing a class you paid for. I have never taken a class I paid for because I don't draw, sketch, or paint anything that isn't mixed media. I am impressed you got so much out of this, though.
I would like to join you for lunch and share your wonderful sandwich and water with lemon with us. I like your choice of slaw, too. Were those home made fries/chips? That's my weakness.
Thanks for sharing your lovely art, including the flowers and lovely face, as well as your pub lunch with us for T this soon-to-be Tuesday.
That food you went out for looks great. Good idea to make a chart for your markers. Glad you are having fun with your colouring pages, they look good. And the face you made is wonderful, it's easy to see that you are enjoying the course. Happy T Day, hugs, Valerie
ReplyDeletei especially love your face from the Workshop. i´m doing None at the Moment (as somehow i´m in the fabric track currently), but i think they are really good for learning. i took one of roben marie Smith a few years ago and it was great. and i would never have the Chance to attend one of them personally (too far away and not to speak of the costs).
ReplyDeletehappy t-day, linda!
Great work and thanks for sharing your thoughts. Greetings!
ReplyDeleteWonderful art - an amazing face and yummie food dear Linda - makes me hungry as it is nearly lunch time here! Happy T-Day - PPF and Show your face!

I love your lady, she is beautiful Linda. Coloring is fun when you're watching tv or just relaxing, and your pages are looking pretty. I think you could use the back of the page for a journal background because it is really pretty. Your lunch looks yummy...perfect for T day. Have a happy one and lets hope our weather stays a little less crazy-but with Colin moving up the coast, hmmmm. Hugs-Erika
ReplyDeleteMmm, your birthday lunch looks yummy. What it is? It doesn't look very Irish as I think it is bread with red peppers and French cheese (Brie?) on top. It looks like something i would order just looking at it.
ReplyDeleteYour coloring is amazing! Yes, by all means do the courses and try to participate fully. You will feel much better about yourself (and will learn a lot).
I have never done anything like that. Mainly it is because I don't have much time but also financially. It usually involves buying materials as I don't have much. (I don't own any markers apart from some markers that I have lying around for my grandchildren). Perhaps one day...
Happy T-Day,
Lisca
What a great quote Linda!
ReplyDeleteLuann's birthday lunch looks yummy and fun.
Lovely lady you created and I bet you have a feeling of accomplishment going through your markers. The soft bleed thru does make a very nice look too.
Happy T Day to you.
I am eagerly awaiting the coming warm but low humidity days :-)
Heat AND humidity are not my favorite combo but pretty much unavoidable in these parts during the summer.
You are so right about the array of online classes.
I think the prices are excellent when you think about what you're getting even if you only avail yourself of part of the online course. It is still much cheaper than a day or two workshop since those prices seem to always be higher.
Have fun! oxo
That face! Wonderful! Your birthday lunch is making me hungry already :) Happy T Tuesday
ReplyDeleteIt's such a good idea to sort out those markers and make a chart with all the colours. I think I might follow your excellent example.
ReplyDeleteI suspect there is much more to making art with markers than one would think...tricks for blending, shading, and texture. Will be interested to see your class work! What a lovely face you've made, and the coloring pages are so pretty! Love them all...Happy T day!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful colours and thanks for the tip about Spectrum Noir. I'll have to see if I can get them here.
ReplyDeleteart is so relaxing love the colours and your food
ReplyDeleteLove the coloring pages. I go through spells of working in them.:) It's very relaxing. Love your face and your lunch looks fantastic ! Happy T day!
ReplyDeleteThe food looks fab and I think the face you have drawn is very beautiful and such an accomplishment. I love learning too and look forward to seeing more of your Radient Faces art work. Happy T Day! :-)
ReplyDeleteHi Linda!! Love your coloring in the coloring book . it really looks like a lot of fun and i'm sure i could get lost in there for hours... lol I keep trying to draw faces... I like to keep trying because i don't have to be perfect... every little imperfection just gives it character...I don't like to take classes because i don't want to be unduly influenced by someone elses style and i'm afraid that would happen.. Happy happyT day!! Hugs! deb
ReplyDeleteBeautiful lady! I'm not a markers user but should give it a try. :)
ReplyDeleteHappy PPF Sweetie and enjoy your weekend, hugs, Valerie
ReplyDeleteLove the coloring pages. The face looks radiant. Happy PPF.
ReplyDeleteLinda, I love your girl. Her eyes drew me in right away and I can't help but wonder what she is thinking about. I am not taking a class right now but I am part of Jamie Ridler's Journal Club this summer. It meets on Zoom each Friday at 1:00. The first meeting was last week and I am looking forward to it again today. It is amazing how technology can bring people from all over the world together to share a common interest. Have a great week.
ReplyDeleteLovely work Linda! I hate that markers dry up.
ReplyDeleteColourful beautiful post!
ReplyDeleteHappy weekend 😃
The face is both radiant and very beautiful Linda. I hope to see more of your portraits soon.
ReplyDeleteHi Linda. Your choice of food looks delish. Love your girl. The coloring books are fun. I have a few of them and always have fun painting in the color. Take care.:)
ReplyDeleteShe is super gorgeous and has a very beautiful energy about her! Wonderful colors too, fantastic work! and I adore your florals, so enchanting and uplifting!
ReplyDeleteVictoria
I can't believe just how popular the colouring books have become.
ReplyDeleteYou've created such colourful work Linda. I need to check my pens too... it's amazing how often I pick up one that has ran out!
Happy PPF to you
I love your markers, they create such vivid blooms. Your lady is lovely...reminds me of the Pre-Raphaelites.
ReplyDeleteHappy Friday

Hi Linda! Thanks for popping by and leaving me such a sweet comment. I have never used the alcohol markers. I love what you do with them. I've been coloring my own doodles for the last 5 years. I had thought about making a coloring book way back then but didn't think there would be a lot of people who would like coloring. I do it to unwind. It seems like there is no place I go where there are not coloring books for sale. Even Home Depot, a huge hardware chain store, has coloring books! It's the popular activity now. I put cardboard in between my pages to control the bleeding thru the picture to the next. Have fun and I love your girl, very sweet! Hugs, Rasz.
ReplyDeleteLinda I like your quote at the end of the post because I have been watching the X-files and wow it gives me nightmares. I think I'll give it a miss! I have spectrum noir pens but have never used them. I love your girl and flowers. Maybe I will try using the alcohol markers soon!! Happy PPF!!
ReplyDeleteI love knowing the difference between the two markers...I was so gung ho about getting copics about three years ago and have barely even used them... I have always been a sharpie girl..your's sound awesome. Love your colouring both sides!! Wonderful face too... can't wait to see and hear more about that class!!
ReplyDeleteHugs Giggles
I love the vibrancy of the alcohol markers! The background of your face is super interesting. Love it!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful face! I love her eyes. The bleed through is very pretty.
ReplyDeleteYour girl looks beautiful Linda! Her eyes look amazing! Love the pretty background! Happy PPF :)
ReplyDeleteWow, they really do bleed through. But you're right: it looks pretty! Good on you for keeping up with your lessons! Sounds like an interesting class. Love your colour choices for this painting!
ReplyDeleteSo many colors here :)
ReplyDeleteYou've very busy using them, organizing, coloring...
Have a creative week!
Hello Linda,
ReplyDeleteYou sure do know how to play! Yay! I love your new girl. Her gaze is contemplative and I love the background and her dress. All wonderful color and texture. Your class sounds great. I love to take them too, and sometimes sign up for too much, lol.
Hugs,
Terri
Your girl is gorgeous and so expressive and I love the soft background. I think I need to get some coloring books, they look very relaxing. ;)
