Say Yes to Distress...

...Oxide Inks , that is! These Tim Holtz inks have been all the rage since being introduced at CHA 2017 earlier this year. I was lucky enough to get 4 of the 12 from the Simon Says Stamp Online Shop as soon as they were available and after playing with these plan on getting a few more:)

So today's post is to share what I have learned and how I played with them so far. For more expert explanations go to Tim Holtz' You Tube Video from CHA 2017.

This is what the inks look like when you smoosh them onto a heat resistant craft mat:

These inks are more opaque, finish with a matte, chalk-like look (although they don't wipe off when dry), and they can be layered and layered, AND layered (without muddying) onto white to black card stocks with excellent results!

                                          on manila tags

                                 on kraft cardstock
detail after layers of colors and droplets of water added then dried. The spritzes of water are what cause the oxide effect.

and on a black tag-isn't it a cool effect??

And here are a trio of tags I made using some of my Distress Oxide backgrounds:

for my T Stands For Tuesday peeps, - a mug of flowers. Heart image is a Dina Wakley stamp.

Dina Wakley heart and face stamps. Behind her head I used a new stamp from this set:

SO many possibilities with this cool set that  I WON in a recent giveaway by Ellen Hutson LLC!!

And my third tag for Moo mania and More (theme is "in triplicate"):

Dina Wakley hearts, birds and sentiment stamps.

Seems I'm still on this tutorial kick since last month's stint with the Simon Says Monday Challenge Blog ;) You can see my 4  posts here, here, here, and here if you missed them. Feel free to use and share my tutorials but please remember not to copy as your own, and credit much appreciated, thank you!

  4. These inks look awesome. I like what they do on black, but they are great as backgrounds, too. I've used the technique before, but obviously not with the oxide inks. They have a very different effect.

These are incredible tags. Of course my favorite is the tea cup with flowers and heart, but they are all three gorgeous. Thanks for sharing this tutorial and your lovely tea cup inspired tag with us for T this Tuesday.

  13. Thanks for explaining the Distress Oxide Inks so clearly. You got some beautiful effects. The oxidation with water is a really cool effect. I guess when you're happy, you can seal with clear acrylic or artists fixative. I love the love birds tags with the distressed heart stamps.
