Gloss Spray Play!

Hi Peeps! How is everyone? We've continued to bake in heat and humidity here with only relief early AM or after sunset. Hubby's had the week off so it's been nice to sit out late with a glass of wine. Needless to say it was a staycation which should have been the beach vacation. But it was still nice just to relax, meet with a couple for outdoor dining  one day, and meet with friends for outdoor swimming and grilling another day. We also ventured out to a shopping center for the first time as hubby needed to get a shirt and order a vest for our son's wedding late October. Despite all the Covid rules and distancing it actually felt good to walk about a few stores (each individual storefront is outside) including Barnes and Noble:) No crowds either so we felt comfortable. Have you gone out or met with friends or family?

OK, on to my photo for T Stands For Tuesday and then the art play!

For one of our dinners I made shrimp scampi along with a new quinoa salad recipe I made-and it was divine with it's tropical notes - mango, lime and unsweetened coconut shaves - along with pumpkin seeds, red pepper, and some red onion. The recipe was in our newspaper and I just knew it would be good! We chose a Pinot Noir (we don't follow wine pairing rules) and it went quite nicely with our meal. Cheers!

I had lots of fun (and quite messy!) two days playing with my Dina Wakley/Ranger Ink Gloss Sprays after watching the online class:
Playing with abstract flower painting using the sprays:

This one done on watercolor page in the original Dina Wakley Media Journal.

I also practiced one on a scrap of heavy cardstock:

and then on a tag which I then added to a journal page (the page background had been done quite awhile ago with many layers):

Tag was glued to page. I added stenciling using Tim Holtz Honeycomb stencil and Fossilized Amber Distress Oxide ink to blend it into the page. Bees are from a napkin. A scrap of distressed corrugated cardboard and a Tim Holtz sentiment sticker finished it off.
Joining in at Art Journal Journey (theme is Pockets and tags); Try It On Tuesday (Words or Numbers); and the Simon Says Monday Challenge (Summer Memories). Summer flowers, summer bees, enjoying the simple things.

A bit more gloss spray play:

My very wonky gloss spray faces on a scrap paper using the stem of Night Gloss Spray to draw them. They are meant to be abstract- you don't have a choice - because the amount of paint that comes out of the stem as you draw is very unpredictable.  I def. need more practice-;)

And a favorite of mine- puddling, moving, scraping the sprays around for abstract backgrounds!!:

The three of these (although I cropped them square) were done on Dina Wakley's loose cotton rag watercolor sheets. Do you have a favorite? I used all Gloss Sprays in many colors so I won't list them but if you have a ? about a color just ask.

It's a given that I will also be joining in at Paint Party Friday too:) Have a super week everyone!

  3. Love your artwork - do not love shopping, though!
Here it´s crowded and the mask is driving me nuts. (I´m wearing glasses that get foggy on top! Argh!)
Haven´t seen family since... "forever". And friends only with the ellbow-greeting.
Ohhhh. That first flower artwork is superpretty!!
Yes, to a wonderful week - summer is finally here!!

  4. I have started to go out a bit also. My last week sound similar to yours. I went out for a little shopping, an outdoor lunch with a friend and a walk with a friend. It does feel good to be somewhat normal again, doesn’t it? I am loving all your spray paint art. I have some of these sprays and haven’t done more than just spray. I do like the effects you created. I like the random dots too. And your staycation evenings outside sound nice with this heat. As does your tropical sounding dinner. Hope this humidity goes away soon. Have a great T day. And stay cool. Hugs Erika

  6. 'Puddling', what a delicious word!
Yes, We have started to socialize. Our mayoress has just announced that we still have zero (active) Covid in our municipality. We are meeting with close friends occasionally. I walk with my bestie twice a week. No hugs of course, just walking, talking and praying.
I agree with you choice of Pinot Noir. It is a very nice wine. I'll join you for a glass of that!
    Happy T-Day,
    Hugs,
    Lisca

  9. Sometimes a staycation is just the right thing to do. It sounds like y'all made a fun time of it. I love the texture in your art, and that abstract work turned out so well it'll be a shame to hide it in the background. Happy T Tuesday!

  13. We've been to a friend's house for dinner. And we've had the same group of five people come to our house. We shop for groceries and medicines. But we haven't been to any restaurants, malls or department stores ... unless Walmart could be considered a department store. Last Sunday I went to church for the first time since 3/22. I felt very safe because there only 25 people and we were spaced quite far from each other.

I'm glad you're finding ways to socialize safely ad have some fun.

I laughed at your wine pairing comment. Chris and I don't follow the rules either. I almost always drink chardonnay and he almost always drink red.

You're so good with watercolors. I love your work. The flowers and tag page are lovely. The puddled one belongs on a wall!

I don't have any commercial spray paints and I haven't had any success with DIY sprays either. I have spray paint envy!

Happy T-day and have a lovely week! Hugs, Eileen

  14. Happy T-Day! (I'm leaving a generic comment for everyone this week, because I'm very sore after each day's storm clean up efforts. Tropical Storm Isaias clobbered Connecticut US August 4, 2020.)

  15. Love them all ~ I like the idea of puddling and scraping and creating an abstract if I could get your results :) We have been going out to shop and eat and have seen a few friends and family too. Shrimp & wine sound yummy! Enjoy your week

  22. Still not socialising but due to go in hospital on ~Monday morning for an operation so it has been advisable to isolate. So good to hear of your staycation which sounded very nice.
Impressive flower painting and what a lovely way to display your tag in your journal in this way - I especially like the way you grounded everything with the corrugated card.

  31. pretty work... artistic creations. I liked hearing you were able to leave the house... it's still crazy increasing rates of infection here... aurora CO... or just leave it at crazy here.

  32. The flowers are lovely - though they wouldn't fall into my definition of abstract (I think if you can recognise it, it isn't abstract!) - and I love them in the page setting - gorgeous! Looks like you've been having lots of fun with the sprays. Happy PPF!

  33. Hi Linda :) I did venture to walmart to, of all things, buy a bra! They wouldn't let me try it on though, I had to hide behind one of the ladies there and try it OVER my clothes...I got lucky it fit though because there are no returns. Crazy! I didn't enjoy being out in the stores though, I'm still wary of other people's germs!

Your staycation sounded fun to me! I'm a homebody though, so every day is a vacation lol...Oh that shrimp scampi...I haven't had it in ages since Alex became a vegetarian, I rarely eat fish anymore, but you've got me craving it! I don't follow wine pairings either...pfffft to that lol! :) Your abstract flowers are beautiful! They're so colourful! I think I like your first abstract background the best because I love how it splatters! The purple is a nice colour in there!

  37. Love seeing your practices and experiments! So sorry you could not go on your beach trip, so much has had to be cancelled, hope your wedding isn't one of them. Hubby didn't get a 50th high school reunion! The big one. So thankful our daughter was able to tie the knot on Feb. 1 before all of this. With my immuno-compromised system (multiple arthritis's) that can generate a cytokine storm all on its own, no I've not been out of my house since 3/1/2020. And I'm happy here if it keeps me alive!
