Index Card Art (Mostly)

Hi Peeps! Hope those of you in the USA had a nice 4th of July weekend. We were quite thankful that the people in the neighborhood setting off fireworks kept it minimal and safe as there were none of the fireworks that aren't legal or meant for residences ( as we have experienced in some prior years). It was just hubby and I  at home - no parties or picnics- and we enjoyed watching Yankee Doodle Dandy  on TV again:)

The pic above is of the three sleepy, and thriving finches in the hanging basket on our front porch. The Carolina wrens in our back yard basket are still bringing in bits of this and that adding to the nest. I did not see any eggs yet.

There is a new guest host and theme at Art Journal Journey for this month. Alison has chosen the theme of "Summer Countryside" and so I just made this page for it:

The page is spattered with Dina Wakley Gloss Spray in Aloe. The stencils were also sprayed with various colors of Gloss Sprays and then fussy cut. I made a super simple sun from patterned paper. the bees are from a napkin, and the sentiment is a Tim Holtz Small Talk sticker. I remember quite fondly lots of rides through the countrysides in France with family, passing many fields of flowers, grains, or animals and stopping along the road at some point for a picnic. I cherish those memories 💖 And speaking of, I am thoroughly enjoying the Tour De France live daily on TV right now!

For T Stands For Tuesday I have another dinner to share from our last time in Cape May:

We both had this delicious crab cake dinner at Hemingway's which is another fave restaurant of ours. it was accompanied by a fresh red pepper sauce, perfectly done green beans and a wonderful risotto. And yes Elizabeth, we do enjoy a good dry wine with our dinners especially when we're on vacation. At home it's only on Saturday and Sunday 😉 Cheers!

And now on to the ICADS (Index Card A day challenge):

ICAD 29/61

ICAD 30/61

My month of June cards all together

In June my theme was to use my index card backgrounds I had made using the Gelli Plate along with all the collage bits I have collected over the years:) For the month of July I will work in a series of themes. My first 10 cards will start with backgrounds of patterned tissue papers (which were the wrappings that came with my Joggles orders): Here are the five landscape format cards I started with:

I think these tissue papers are just wonderful! I then did LOTS of mark making layers over them following a free online tutorial series hosted by Wendy Solganik. She had begun by creating on a large, blank sheet of watercolor paper to make a master board and then when finished cut it apart to tag or card size to further collage on. I decided to start with these patterned backgrounds.

My cards after all the layers:

I will be using sentiments from a digi collage sheet from Paper Whimsy  along with either a stamp image or one I drew myself. And here are my cards:

 ICAD 31/61. Image hand drawn.

ICAD 32/61. Image is an old Hero Arts stamp.

ICAD 33/61. Image is hand drawn.

ICAD 34/61. Image is hand drawn.

ICAD 35/61. Image is an old rubber stamp.

And that's a wrap for this week! Also joining Paint Party Friday. I'll be around visiting throughout the week and weekend to see what you're all up to 😁

  1. I could wear a feather, yes, but only on Tuedays! I think I love the owls and the feathers best. Really fabulous!

  2. I'm going to start with your ICADs. I love how you displayed all of June together. They certainly were colorful and so beautifully layered, too.

You would NEVER convince me the backgrounds you started with were the same as in the finished five had I not seen the process. I was blown away by the completed cards. So different from how they started out.

Your choice of countryside walks is perfect. I like the sun and those bees. I also liked how you could relate to riding in the French countryside with your family. It was even more special and just perfect for Alison's theme at Art Journal Journey.

Now for Hemingway's. Your crab cakes look good, but I would prefer shrimp scampi. I admit, I've had shrimp scampi across the country and have never had it served with tomatoes before. Garlic butter, yes, but never with tomatoes. That surprised me. Thanks for sharing it and your dry wine with us for T this almost Tuesday, along with your ICADs, journal page, and your baby birds update.

    And cute sleepy heads.
Uh. We get darn soccer on TV but I had no idea the Tour De France is on. Love your page, though.
Love your cards! You´re very creative.
    Happy T-Day!

  6. I had to smile when I saw your Yankee Doodle Dandy on tv because my husband had put that on when we got home too. and those little finches are getting so big. I also saw your blank index cards and said that looks like Joggles tissue paper. (I'm a joggles shopper too). They came out great and I love the wreath of ICADS. And thanks Linda for your gorgeous page for Alison's challenge at AJJ. It is a beauty. Glad you could share it with us. Your Hemingway's dinner looks so yummy for T-thanks for sharing that too. Have a great T day. Hugs-Erika

  14. How cute those finches. I'm sure you'll keep us updates of their development.
I love your ICADs. Especially those with the background you explained. Beautiful.
Your meal out looks very nice indeed. I would probably enjoy that too.
I used to follow the Tour de France when I was young, then when I moved to Italy of course it was the Giro d'Italia. Now for the last 25 years we have not had a tv so I just read about it in the papers.
    Happy T-Day,
    Hugs,
    Lisca
