Hello August!

Wow- where is my summer going? August began with rain from morning til evening on Sunday and it was actually damp and a bit chilly- just like the last few mornings. I'm not ready for this😕 It IS nice to to have such humidity and heavy air though. It's been a delight sitting out as much as we can and enjoying the show our hummingbirds have been giving us. They are very curious and come quite close as well as chase each other around right under our noses. If only I could capture it for you to see...

I'll start with my ticket for T Stands For Tuesday where we share a beverage/drink related something- whether it be an actual drink, or art, or movie clip, or drink recipe...you get it- lots of fun!! Would love to see you there!

Because we knew it would rain all day Sunday hubby spent Saturday from morning til evening doing yard work- trimming trees, hedges, forsythia bushes, etc. then bagging it all to go to recycling. He also layed down a new outdoor carpet for the area of our back patio that's covered under a roof. So besides making a nice dinner, on Sunday morning I made him this 3 egg ham and cheese omelette with toast and coffee. And then he ate a nice piece of zucchini bread too😋. That's his newly purchased mug- he LOVES Mustangs and has owned several cars- his latest is a 2017 French Blue with black stripes down the middle. It's nice but I'm quite happy with my dependable Ford Focus😉

And now for the last of my index cards for the ICAD Challenge. A card a day for 61 days and I completed it for the 3rd year in a row!

ICAD 58/61

I had 4 more cards to do so I went back to the series I did earlier this month creating a collage and watercolor background (here using Daniel Smith Yellow Green and Ultramarine Turquoise) a word chosen from a collage sheet, and a coordinating tile letter (Tim Holtz) which I built up with bits from my stash.

 And July's cards all together:

I went off prompt. For the whole month of June I used index cards with backgrounds using a variety of techniques on the Gelli Plate. You can see them all together in this post. For July I did 3 different series of cards:

For these I created lots of layers of paint, stenciling, some stamping, and mark making before adding a Tim Holtz Paper Doll and Snarky Small Talk quote. You can see the materials used here.

In this series I started by covering the cards with printed tissue paper that came as the wrapping for supplies I would order from Joggles online. I then added lots of mark making and some stenciling. I finished them with either a stamped focal image or a hand drawn one and then a sentiment from a digi sheet from Paper Whimsy. You can see how they began in this post.

And in this series I began with bits of papers collaged onto the cards, then chose two Daniel Smith  watercolors, then some spattering with black and white. A word was chosen and then a coordinating tile letter built up with paper and/or fabric bits and threads.
My favorite of all were these watercolor cards. There was just something about creating them that felt loose, raw, and organic. And I actually loved playing with my watercolors again! I'll definitely be trying this in some of my journals.

There is a new guest host and theme over at Art Journal Journey this month! Neet is hosting, and her theme is "Type". There are so many ways to interpret her wonderful theme, so go see and read about it, and then play along, won't you?

Here is my journal spread:

I have always loved this quote. For the word hope I used Dina Wakley's newest alphabet stamp set. The rest of the quote was computer generated. The faces are Dina Wakley Collage papers. I also used one of her stencils, washi tapes, and paints in her kraft journal.

Also happily joining in at Paint Party Friday. Happy new week to you!

  1. I don't think it is going to stop raining here either. Summer is flying and it would be nice for a sunny August. It is great seeing your ICAD series. You made some gorgeous sets. Thanks for much for linking your latest page at AJJ. The big pink feather is an eye catching addition. I love how you combine the feather and the story of hope. Type is a nice challenge, isn't it? Have a super August and happy T day too. Hugs-Erika

  2. Linda. the index cards are all wonderful. Love the colors, techniques and extras you added. Hard to pick any favorites but the ones with TH dolls are probably my favorites. The new journal pages are super cool - love the HOPE font, the faces and the lovely words. HOpe is a wonderful thing - I grab on to it OFTEN!!!! Of all your pictures, my favorite is the omlet and that coffee in the Mustang cup. I had one in my life unless you count the one I bought my youngest daughter. They are cool cars, but I with you on the give me the reliable cars first! Happy T-day! Hugz

  3. Is the banner new? I love it.
    Ha, summer. It´s cold.

    Now that is some breakfast!!
And a big WOW on your creativity in these cards!
    Happy T-Day!

  4. I am also a big fan of your ICADs. So much nicer than mine. I love the watercolors you used. They are much stronger than mine. I am in awe of the layers you achieved. I kept mine flat, but I may take inspiration from you and make mine more like yours next year. You found a great way to use some of your TH dolls and I enjoyed them, too. They were all great this year and I would not be able to pick a favorite.

I also loved your take on Neet's theme. Hope is my word of the year, so this double spread meant even more to me. Thanks for sharing your lovely entry with us at Art Journal Journey using Neet's theme.

I'm jealous of your husband. One of the reasons I'm late visiting is because I have been out cutting down my overgrown bamboo. Our neighborhood is having a clean-up on Saturday, and it's a great way for me to get rid of this horrible stuff FREE of charge. It is hard work and I am sore all over (even though it's my first day doing it). The reason I'm jealous is because no one is going to fix me a meal or even a cup of coffee after my hard work (GRIN). Your husband is lucky to get an omelette AND homemade zucchini bread. That's a lovely Ford Mustang mug. Thanks for sharing your lovely ICADs, your journal page, and your husband's breakfast, coffee, and new mug with us for T this Tuesday, dear Linda.

  5. Fabulous post, Linda. Your husband's breakfast looks good, yummy! Lots of rain here, too. I love all of your index cards, you really made some stunning sets. And the journal page for AJJ is beautiful, with a wonderful quote. thanks for joining us there for Neet's challenge. Have a great week, hugs, Valerie

  6. What a treat this morning you have given us. I love those icads - and there are so many. My eye went straight to the green and turquoise ones, two of my favourite colours together. But then there are so many that I would find it difficult to choose a favourite. I do, however, like the way you have used the Daniel Smith watercolours. I think I need to investigate them.
The journal page - absolutely lovely! I always enjoy seeing Dina's faces, particularly used in journals. Love the background, the addition of the feather and the words ... just perfect.
Thank you for taking part in my theme at AJJ.
    Hugs, Neet xx
    ps love that omelette!

  7. I love all your index cards Linda, so colourful and lots of different techniques.
I’m not a fan of omelettes much to my husbands disappointment as he loves them, the mug is lovely. Our son in San Francisco has a red mustang, I’m the only one who is small enough to fit in the back and even that’s a squeeze.
    Happy T day

  8. Terrific journal page, Linda! So well expressed with the images and the words. I love that you start with the word HOPE being larger than the rest of the quote. Your index cards are FABULOUS!

  9. Again, I love seeing all your index cards together. Prompts are great when you need direction but it is always good when you can let your creativity take over.
The meal looks delicious! And I know what you mean about all the rain.
    Happy Tea Day,
    Kate

  11. I enjoyed seeing your Icads on Instagram and I liked how you had different themes for each set. Great idea to have a letter and word with the super backgrounds.
I like the look of the new stamp set, larger letters could be useful and I love the pink feather with the words.
As to weather it was very hot and dry (for here) and now it is cooler and even rained a little today.

  13. What a lovely omelet breakfast! I might do hubby one this evening for supper. I have mushrooms and cheese.
I love all your ICADs. Especially the last series with the water colors and just one word on it. I love those.
I hope you will try and read the book about the Paris Library. It is not gruesome or gory. It's all about the library and what happens in it and the changes that happen once the Germans have taken over the city. It's a story about strong women, some fictional and some real life people. And it is a story about relationships/love affairs plus a coming-of-age story interwoven within all this. Do give it a go.
    Happy T-Day,
    Take care,
    Hugs,
    Lisca

  14. We had a couple of days of sunshine, but will be back to more rain this week. That breakfast looks fantastic. My very first car was a 1979 Ford Mustang. The first year they went from Mustang II back to Mustang. My car was Metallic Jade with a tan interior. The car was named Hubbell after Redford's character in "The Way We Were". Awesome collection of ICADs. They make a fabulous quilt. Happy T Day

Your journal page made me smile - great inspiration, I haven't used my Dina 'stuff' for a while now - need to go and get it onto my desk! Loved the different size letters - great for Neet's theme at AJJ.
You made a lovely breakfast for your hard working hubby. His new mug looks great too! Belated Happy T day, Chrisx

I really like the colorway of blues and greens you chose for the last cards. We had so much rain here the last days and weeks, also serious floodings in some area of our country.
