Art Journaling

Hi all! Today (Monday) is a federal holiday in the US - Presidents Day. Many have the day off , and I hope if you do you are enjoying the three day weekend. There have been lots of movies, shows, and documentaries throughout cable and streaming services about our presidents and I have caught bits and pieces of them in between doing household chores while hubby enjoyed them. And I always learn something new about our past presidents - so interesting!

Our weather continues to be erratic- very warm a day or two, and then the temperature plummets and we get heavy damaging winds and snow squalls 😵! Thankfully we personally didn't lose any power or have any damage but others weren't as lucky. I stayed home all weekend and enjoyed making art in my journals, and using new Dina Wakley paints and collage sheets in both the white square journal and the kraft one. I am truly loving the size (6" x 6") and square format!

I'll be sharing my pages with Art Journal Journey (What's Your Style?) and Paint Party Friday, and this page is also for the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge (Art Journal):

This page was created in the Dina Wakley white journal. I used three of her newest paint colors - Tangelo, Rouge, and Orchid. The leaves and feathers are Dina's collage papers (tissue) -Elements, Just Words, and Things That Grow. I stamped the DW face (Sketched faces stamp set) using black Archival ink onto the DW plain white collage paper(tissue). I actually enjoyed fussy cutting the tissue leaves and applying them around the face/page. I finished it by adding some black and white doodles with Posca pens. Here is a larger photo:

And for another pop of vivid color, here is another page I did in the white square journal last week:

Here I used DW paints and applied them to the page using a slightly wet brush with each color. Her Mantras stencil was used with black acrylic and then over that I used her new Connected Dots stencil and white acrylic paint. The flower (DW Always Flowers set) was stamped with black Archival ink. The sentiment was added digitally.

And now a break so I can join in at T Stands For Tuesday to see what everyone there is up to this week! All you have to do to link up is share something beverage related- a photo, a drink, a piece of art. It's always fun to see how everyone interprets the challenge each week, and anyone is welcome to join in.

After making a meatloaf the other week (purely out of love for our son's birthday) I was craving plant based food. I did make vegan "crab" cakes which I had completely forgotten to take a photo of. Now, despite the fact that the consistency wasn't exactly like lump crabmeat, hubby and I both deemed them to be a very tasty seafood-like substitute and I will definitely make them again! Here I had a mushroom and lentil veggie burger for lunch along with a cup of Stash decafe green tea. Perfect on a cold day. Cheers!

One more journal page I recently did in the white square journal:

Dina Wakley paints, stencil, and collage paper. Tim Holtz paper Dolls, Transparent Wings, and Small Talk Menus sticker. I am happily using my supplies without worry about running out of anything anytime soon😁.

Thanks for popping in. Wishing you happy signs of Spring in your week ahead!

  2. Your veggie burger looks good. I've been trying recipes for veggie burgers which so far tasted good but didn't stay stuck together when I fried them. Needs work.

  3. You made some fun art this week Linda. I really like the face with the orange and pink, and it definitely a bit different from your usual style. I think that is the best part about art journaling though. That is trying new styles as well as techniques and colors and just about anything else. I image you do also Linda. I haven't joined the new plant based food trend. I eat lots of plants, but for some reason I haven't tried the substitutes for meat. Maybe one day I will as there are so many now. And there are so many ways to substitute too, like your crab cakes. I hope you have a great T day and week ahead. hugs-Erika

  16. Love your pages Linda, especially the one with the black leaves, which I thought were stamped until I read that they were tissue paper. I have a book somewhere that is all about veggie burgers, there must be over 100 different recipes, hard to find a good one sometimes isn't it. Happy T Day Elle/EOTC xx

  17. WOW, Linda, having weather that was unpredictable has been quite good for you. You have made three impressive journal pages this week. I love the lady with her flowers and feathers and also the streaks of color in the square journal. I really love the last one as it reminds me of Black History Month. I love that background, too. Actually the last one reminds me more of your signature style, but they all remind me of your very impressive art. Thanks for sharing these with us at Art Journal Journey using Bleubeard's and my theme.

I've made lentil burgers before, but never cared for them. I must not have seasoned them properly, or something, because they didn't taste good to me. I do like the look of yours, though, and I love that you pared it with Stash tea. Thanks for sharing it and your art with us for T this Tuesday.
